Prince Harry has reflected on one of his “fondest” memories with his father from the period before their relationship deteriorated.
The prince and the king have endured a strained relationship, yet Harry has recalled some of their shared moments with fondness.
Harry is no longer on good terms with his father following his departure from the royal family and his series of critical revelations about life within Palace walls.
Despite this, Harry did share some positive remarks about the monarch in his memoir, Spare.
Remembering his cherished childhood moments with Charles, Harry acknowledged his father for “trying” after Princess Diana’s death.

He wrote, “Evenings, I’d shout downstairs: Going to bed, Pa! He’d always shout back cheerfully: I’ll be there shortly, darling boy! True to his word, minutes later, he’d be sitting on the edge of my bed.
“He never forgot that I didn’t like the dark, so he’d gently tickle my face until I fell asleep.
“I have the fondest memories of his hands on my cheeks, my forehead, then waking to find him gone, magically, the door always considerately left open a crack.”

The father and son did have a meeting during Harry’s recent five-day visit to the UK this July, reports the Express.
The prince traveled to the UK to commemorate the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games, scheduled to take place in Birmingham in 2027.
The prince, his wife Meghan Markle, and their three children, Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie, were received by the king and Queen Camilla at a private gathering held at Highgrove House.
Those close to King Charles have repeatedly indicated that he was eager for the reunion to occur, having not seen Archie and Lilibet since 2022.
A source revealed to Vanity Fair that no photographs will be released to the public, and that Prince Harry has given King Charles assurances that he will not make any public statements regarding the family gathering.
In late August, Harry and Meghan returned to Britain for what is being described as an “extended” stay, bringing their two children along with them, who have since been enrolled in British schools.
