On Monday night, Anne Hathaway was filmed organizing photographers at the Verity premiere in New York City, laying out how she and her cast members would pose for shots. The clip quickly made the rounds online, where people praised the actress for taking control of the situation.

Hathaway, however, was apparently so mortified by the moment that she issued an apology during an appearance on The Tonight Show Wednesday. “It’s like mom mode by way of chorus line!” she said, adding that she was “trying to be helpful. There were so many of us, and the photographers were getting upset, and so the vibe was changing.”

Personally, I don’t think Hathaway should be embarrassed. When I watch this video, I see a woman who’s serious about her business. After 25 years in the game, Hathaway surely understands all the ways a red-carpet event can go wrong. It seems to me like she put that field research to good use and made life easier for everyone involved.

In fact, if Hathaway ever has some free time on her hands, she should be in charge of more red carpets. It would take a lot of pressure off Chappell Roan.
