Mia Goth is taking legal steps to end her marriage to Shia LaBeouf after a decade marked by marriage, separation, reconciliation, and becoming parents. The 32-year-old “Frankenstein” and “Pearl” actress filed for divorce from LaBeouf, 40, in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, according to court documents obtained by multiple outlets.
Goth cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce and listed July 28, 2025, as the couple’s date of separation. The filing makes their breakup official more than a year after Goth says the marriage ended.

Goth is requesting primary legal and physical custody of their daughter, according to the petition. She is also asking the court to terminate its ability to award spousal support to either her or LaBeouf.
The filing reportedly states that “the exact nature and extent” of the former couple’s separate and community property, assets and debts are currently unknown. Goth wants the option to amend the petition once those financial details are determined. She is also requesting that each party cover their own attorney fees.

Entertainment Weekly reported that representatives for both Goth and LaBeouf were contacted for comment following news of the filing.
Goth herself has not publicly issued a detailed statement about the divorce.
Shia LaBeouf Previously Confirmed His Split From Mia Goth
While Goth has remained guarded about their relationship, LaBeouf spoke publicly about their separation months before the divorce filing. During a February 2026 appearance on “Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan,” LaBeouf acknowledged that the marriage had ended. “I failed my marriage, and so I had to own up to that,” he said while discussing the circumstances that led him to relocate to New Orleans.
LaBeouf also indicated that the breakup had occurred well before it became widely known. “We’re good as is,” he said of his relationship with Goth after their separation. “We’re in a good spot.”

He added that the former couple was focused on parenting Isabel together, saying, “We’re trying to figure out co-parenting and we’re good.”
Despite their romantic split, LaBeouf spoke highly of Goth. “She’s a good woman,” he said, adding that she had continued to give him “grace” and allowed him to maintain regular contact with their daughter.
Mia Goth Made Her Priorities Clear Before the Divorce Filing
Goth has been considerably more private about LaBeouf. In a 2025 interview with Elle, she explicitly set a boundary around discussing her husband, saying, “what I don’t want to talk about is Shia LaBeouf.”
She was more open about motherhood and her relationship with Isabel. “More than anything, I’d say my daughter is my home,” Goth told the publication.

Goth also discussed trying to work through her own feelings of displacement so they would not be passed on to her daughter, explaining that she wanted to better understand those emotions “so that it’s not something I give to my daughter.”
Those comments came during a period Goth now identifies in court documents as shortly before her July 2025 separation from LaBeouf.
Mia Goth and Shia LaBeouf’s Complicated Marriage Timeline
Goth and LaBeouf first became romantically linked after meeting while working on Lars von Trier’s “Nymphomaniac.” They married in Las Vegas in October 2016, although their unconventional ceremony initially sparked questions about whether the marriage was legally binding. LaBeouf subsequently publicly described Goth as his wife.
At the time, LaBeouf defended the relationship and the ceremony, saying, “We’re proud of it. It was love.”
By 2018, however, the marriage had hit its first public breaking point. A representative for LaBeouf confirmed at the time that the couple had filed for divorce, calling their separation “amicable” and saying details of the proceedings would remain private.

By 2020, Goth and LaBeouf appeared to have reconciled, and they later reunited as a couple. Their daughter Isabel was born in 2022.
LaBeouf spoke emotionally about Goth’s support during a difficult period in his life, saying on Jon Bernthal’s “Real Ones” podcast that she had been there for him when he felt he did not deserve it. “She saved my f—ing life,” LaBeouf said, adding, “She gave me hope when I was really running on fumes.”
In 2022, he also described their reconciliation in an email published by Variety, writing that he and Goth had “found each other again” and were working toward “a healthy family with love and mutual respect.”
