waler a teenage fan of Hansel and gredle Derek MIRS as Edward a troll that is in the services of Muriel he serves Muriel and her coven but befriends gredle by healing her and becomes Hansel and by the mayor to assist Hansel and gredle ingred Balo burle as horned witch a member of Muriel’s personal coven with many horns on her head Joanna culig as red-haired witch a red-haired member of Muriel’s personal coven development Hansel and gredle which Hunter is the first English language filmm and the first big studio production of Norwegian writer and director Rola up to this point best known for his 2009 Nazi Zombie themed independent horror and comedy film Dead Snow Rola said he was contacted by producer Kevin messic from Gary Sanchez Productions after the screening of dead snow at the Sundance Film Festival so my first meeting my first day in Los Angeles was with those guys and I pitched Hansel in and gredle and they loved it and they took me to Paramount 2 days after and we sold it in 2013 Rola said I’m still surprised that they went for it because it’s a crazy rock and roll script It’s Full Throttle there’s lots of blood and gore and bad language I often wonder how I got this movie made it’s all across the world now but people really seem to respond to it which is what we hoped that people would enjoy this ride and announcement of Hansel and gredle witch Hunters sparked a production of several other Hansel and Gretel based films made by different Studios including the asylum’s mockbuster Hansel and gredle CFI witch Slayer gredle and Lion’s gate home entertainments Hansel and gredle Warriors of Witchcraft the film was a part of an overall Hollywood trend of witch themed films including Beautiful Creatures which stars Thomas man and Oz the Great and Powerful set to be released that same season the project was given a budget of $150 Million co-financed by Metro Goldwin mayor casting and characters Jeremy rener who played the film’s adult Hansel has stated that his initial attraction came from a one sheet he was given even before seeing the script showing Hansel and gredle walking away and a witch burning at a stake in the background which he found incredibly interesting the scene was included in the finished film he added when I read the script my first thought was I can’t believe this hasn’t been done yet it’s such a great idea with so much potential that Dynamic was definitely a big thing I loved that what Tommy roler wrote left so much room for character Rola said he wanted rener in the role after seeing him in The Hurt Locker worka who described Hansel as the Loose Cannon of the duo gave him an additional character flaw of diabetes in addition to the psychological scars that Hansel shares with his sister in the original idea for the short film gredle was also suffering from eating disorder rener said it was a great escape for him as this was a fairy tale with no stress like the other action movies I’d done recently I was having so much fun hanging on a wire like Peter Pan hanging onto a broom and doing other crazy stuff he stated that was one of the most fun jobs I’ve ever had because there’s something magical about that old world fantasy thing the role of adult grle whom Rola wanted to be a really really strong and fun female character was originally planned for numei Rapace who dropped out of consideration for the part prior to early January 2011 Diane Krueger and Eva Green were reported to also be in talks for the role English actress Gemma ariton was ultimately cast in the role she impressed worka with her performance in the The Disappearance of Alice Creed and after they have met with her really filthy sense of humor as the humor is essential to this film Arterton said she was attracted to work cola’s strong vision for the film calling it very very dark and bloodthirsty and there’s a lot of cursing it’s kind of got a Tarantino feel really Arterton described her character as much more in tune with her spiritual side Hansel is a typical Action Hero cheeky funny a womanizer she’s much more of a thinker intense internal and bit more open-minded than he is she said that Gretel is a sexual character but she’s not having sex with anybody which is a change for me because usually in my films I’m sleeping with somebody she further explained the characters Hansel and gredle have this Unstoppable Bond but they’re also so different from each other she’s the brains of the operation he’s the Braun he’s the Joker and the showoff she’s more The Watcher the researcher the one who tries to really understand witchcraft Arterton added Jeremy rener and I found within the script moments where we showed the vulnerable side of them often in action movies people are scared to put that in I think it was important she said that she loved every minute of the production and did not want it to end also crediting it for helping her overcome her her fear of getting hurt the role of the chief witch Muriel described by Arterton as the queen bee of witches was given to Dutch actress F Jansen Jansen too described the film as Tarantino esque with a lot of blood gore and exploding witches Rola said he had a crush on Jansen since he saw her in Golden ey as Zenia onop an amazing villain and that in his opinion her being not only a good actress but also a beautiful woman who is huge and menacing somehow made her a perfect combination of sexy and dangerous Jansen said that at first the initial appeal was just money but she quickly took a liking of the script and of worka personally she also thought the idea of playing an evil to the core which was appealing and different saying I hadn’t done anything like it a character like a witch feels like you would have so much freedom because there are no restrictions as to what you can do later however she was constantly being distracted by the special effects work and felt that she really understood the character only in one part of the film she found the timeconsuming process of applying such makeup taking 3 hours to apply and one hour to remove very strange and also felt restricted and afraid of acting over the top in her witch role in the end she still had a lot of fun playing someone who is completely evil and felt that it was so empowering to have an inner witch to get in touch with once in a while Jansen said the film might appeal to women and girls two there’s a brother and a sister Story and there’s a romance in it too but obviously not with the witch nobody falls in love with the witch Edward a morally conflicted troll enslaved by Muriel was voiced by Robin Atkin DS and played by Derek mir’s Jason Vorhees in 29’s Friday the 13 MIRS was using an elaborate animatronic suit that he compared to kind of like NASCAR where I’m piloting it but I’m not doing it by myself I think there’s like five guys controlling the individual parts of the character there’s one person who does the eyebrows one person does the feet Jansen who could not say enough things about Tommy Work Cola said she was especially impressed at how he stuck to his specific vision and fought hard to hire a number of unknown European actors that would otherwise be unlikely to appear in a big Studio American film in effect making it a much more International production several Nordic actors were cast in Major roles including pav vitala Peter stor who Arterton said had actually inspired her to start acting Bjorn sunquist and ingred balso burle in addition actors from Germany and Poland including Thomas man Rainer Bach and Joanna kig and other parts of the world were also cast viala a self-described big fan of rener said she was nervous at first but found him extremely easy to approach made a good connection and enjoyed working with him Rola said burle was chosen for her piercing eyes adding there are a lot of Norwegians in the film minor Parts but I knew I could get great actors in small parts and ingred has a great physicality stor said he was only surprised at how smart Tom worka is and how broad this fantasy is and the span of his imagination his favorite aspect being how some of the witches are so sexy and cool he compared the film’s production to being in Disneyland saying it felt like a dream to him filming worka said from day one I was very clear that I wanted to shoot this thing in Europe I really wanted that European feel of cold mountains big forests that sort of spirit was important to me luckily we did get to shoot it in Germany which is the homeland of the fairy tale shooting in natural outdoor sets is very important to me compared to working on a Sound Stage it took place in Germany at the bburg studio in potom bburg in a filming location at an Old Forest near Berlin production designer stepen Scott said that he searched for and found what he believed looked like a medieval Forest free of human interference and in the city of Brun schwag in lower Saxony after the film was delayed to 2013 the crew did a couple of re-shoot including a little bit in the deserts of California filming the post-ending scene an extended version of which was also released in a promotional clip the desert witch principal photography began on March 13 2011 and concluded on June 3 2011 using digital cinematography worka said hopefully you can see what I’m inspired by Ry and Jackson actually I’m a big fan of Steven Spielberg and the way he shoots action scenes I think in a lot of modern action movies it’s hard to see what’s going on shaky cam hopefully what we strived for was to go a little retro in how you shoot action scenes the film was shot in 3D and its real 3D shots were done by lead stereographer Florian mayor and his team from stereotech Rola said we shot half of it in real 3D and the other half was postcon converted actually the 3D thing wasn’t there in the beginning it was something the studio suggested later on we embraced it and I think it actually really helps in getting people into this fairy tale world the filming process took 3 months a 12-minute b-roll footage was later released on the internet stunt coordinator and second unit director David lch compared it to a jackiechan hybrid of comedy and action prior to the filming Lech organized a month-long boot camp in order to prepare rener and Aron who said she was also glad that at least she could use her prior training that she received while studying at Raa with extensive weapons fight and stunt training Jansen said she enjoyed flying something that she always wanted to do adding that despite her reputation as an action star it was the first film where she really had to do something physical including suffering a minor accident on the set because she could not use a double in the closeup scenes where she had the makeup on during one of the scenes where gredle is thrown through a wall and falls down several meters a stunt double for Arterton was dangerously injured when a nail got lodged in her skull close to the brain Arterton said she initially wanted to do this stunt herself but Rola would not let her Arterton herself suffered an injury when she sprained her ankle while running through the forest stunts for the more aggressive witches were done by New Zealander stuntwomen and actress Zoe Bell who also portrayed the tall witch in the beginning of the film rener did practically all of his stunt scenes himself visual effects and post-production the film’s visual effects were created using mostly practical Effects supplemented by computer generated imagery CGI created by Hammerhead VFX from for about 15% of the film’s special effects such as the Transformations Rola said I’m a big believer in just using CGI to polish what you get on camera for me that’s the ideal use of CGI we have a troll in the film that is animatronic I loved him it took some convincing to get the studio along with the animatronic creature there have been bad experiences with animatronics throughout various Productions but I saw this company spectral motion they did the Hellboy movies and I just loved it Rola added I come from Norway where we can’t afford CGI but this is a Fantastical world of witches and trolls and I wanted to ground the movie where I could the blood should look real Jansen however despite work cola’s warnings was not entirely prepared for how involved and long that was going to be and actually wanted to burn the prosthetic makeup by the end of the movie She recalled being so overwhelmed by what this prosthetic business was all about saying acting has been so specific for me and what I’ve learned eyes facial expressions all of that stuff and with something like this you’re robbed of all of this or I could no longer rely on things I’ve done in the past it was different and frustrating at times because I had this circus of people around me in case something became unglued Muriel and the other principal witches were prepared by Mike elisala spectral motion who also created and handled the animatronic troll John Farhat was the visual effects supervisor and Arial second unit director conceptual design and Production Studio picture Mill collaborated with work Cola and mesic to create the title and opening credits sequence telling some of the Early Adventures of Hansel and gredle as they grew up to become famous wi Hunters it was created with stereo 3D toolbox through a combination of handdrawn illustration practical fire effects and CGI animation the digital color correction was supervised by stepan sonnenfeld Jansen said the film is definitely played with a bit of a wink and doesn’t take itself too seriously worka himself described it as a little more grounded and action centered than Dead Snow he recalled that he has tried to downplay Comedy elements if you go too far it can turn into a spoof almost we shot a lot more than what is in the movie of course and it’s just balancing it when you’re cutting speaking of graphic violence he said that the first version we tested was for sure the most extreme some stuff stayed in some stuff got cut out by August 2012 Paramount was reportedly test screening two versions of the film rated R and PG-13 and the R-rated cut received the positive feedback worka said I was afraid I actually made sure they could never cut it to PG-13 we always knew it was going to be R McKay said that Paramount’s Adam Goodman was perceptive enough to see the same thing and got behind it as well Rola said the pre-production and shooting went very smooth but the post- production was very new to me and how they do things here with testing in the studio he said about the test screenings in particular I can see why they do it there’s a lot of money involved and they want it to hit as broad as possible but I think it’s a flawed process I really do McKay said that Paramount Executives might nevertheless regret the film’s R rating music Hans Zimmer worked on witch Hunters as an executive music producer 8 Icelandic composer Atley ivarson co-author of Zimmer’s score for Pirates of the Caribbean at World’s End created the film score Irv arson had previously scored season of the which so initially he was a bit apprehensive to work on another witchcraft film but was too fond of the story to say no and found Tommy work cola’s take on the subject matter to be very refreshing bvars found it easier to collaborate with Rola due to their shared Nordic Heritage and said that their discussions about the music for the film might have had some of the most cold and dark humor of any Hollywood Music meetings the film’s soundtrack Hansel and gredle witch hunter music from the most otion picture was released in MP3 format by Paramount music on January 22 2013 a physical soundtrack album was released on January 29 2013 from La La Land records the song Bundy by Norwegian rock band animal Alpha is used during the films and credits but is not included on the film’s soundtrack theatrical initially slated for a March 2 2012 release the film was pushed by Paramount Pictures to a 10-month delay for January 11 2013 co-producer Kevin messic later said we’d finished it but we were still discussing adding a Kota scene which we were able to shoot and there was always the consideration that Jeremy rener had Avengers and Bourne coming out so the studio made a wise strategic move in finding a good release date for us Rola said that the main reason is because they wanted to wait on Jeremy he was cast before Mission Impossible born and the Avengers they wanted to wait until after those I was of course disappointed then but actually it helped because we came in under budget and so the delay enabled him to read and shoot an additional scene that is set in the desert and which was cut from his original screenplay the first trailer for the film was released on September 5 2012 the film was again delayed by 2 weeks to January 25 2013 in the United States and Canada a statement from Paramount suggested that the film was delayed to enable it to be released in a Max 3D format in early January 2013 illegal copies of gredle witch Hunters was Paramount’s fourth highest grossing film of 2013 following new graphic novel and franchise entries World War Z Star Trek Into Darkness and gii Joe retaliation respectively it is estimated that following published production costs marketing and advertising fees and the percentage of International Revenue that was lost by the domestic Studio similar fantasy reboots such as Snow White and the Huntsman Mirror Mirror Jack the Giant Slayer Abraham Lincoln vampire Hunter and I Frankenstein fail to match the total Studio winnings for Hansel and gredle witch Hunters which horror ANS for campy fun but comes off tedious and blood spattered Andrew Barker of variety called the film inconsistently acted and somehow both underwritten and overplotted and while the action Is frequent and competently staged it might feel too repetitive as yet another which is ripped apart limb from limb sending yet another wave of viscera sling toward the camera similarly Stephanie Mary of the Washington Post wrote that after a while it’s easy to become numb to the repulsive sites and bored by action that once seemed intense and exciting in this rarely funny spoof That’s Heavy on bone crushing and blood gushing giving it one and half star out of four Steven Farber of The Hollywood Reporter wrote a scaving review saying that while work Cola makes the most of the 3D technology the film is too fanciful to be truly revolting for its Gore effects and despite its few Rye jokes the script is awfully thin Roger Moore of the Charlotte Observer gave the film one and a half out of four stars writing that Rola focuses on the fights and flings all manner of viscera at the 3D camera as limbs are whacked off and heads and torsos explode less attention was paid to the story and the dialogue is a tad over reliant on the random F-word to land a laugh cat Murphy of MSN gave it one star out of four comparing this big budget faux fairy tale about skanky witches to a downscale video game for dull-eyed teens happy to lap up lame Wise Cracks and lots of Gore according to vultures Bill jabiri if the similarly situated Abraham Lincoln vampire Hunter took itself too seriously the problem with Hansel and gredle is that it doesn’t quite take itself seriously enough Keith staswick of Entertainment Weekly gave the film a c calling it an intermittently fun but OV excited and predictable mismash Alicia Malone ofine rated it a 4510 stating there are a few funny moments but overall Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is too similar to many films we’ve seen before Callum Marsh of Slant Magazine lambasted the film’s sub Tim Burton aesthetic and wrote that the result suggests a night’s tale as penned by Seth MacFarlane giving it zero out of four stars Scott a gray of exclaim praised some elements of the film such as Lush and colorful art design that recalls a gillermo Del Toro production sound creature makeup and special effects decently choreographed action scenes and a pair of leads who do their damst to sell the limp script giving it a score of 410 Chris Knight of the Vancouver Sun called it a mess of a fairy tale expecting a Wiccan outcry at the film’s depiction nay endorsement of the torture of witch folk Liam Lacy of the globe and male gave it one star out of four concerned how it has an alarming number of females being being strung up burned shot decapitated and eviscerated some reception of the film was more positive Michael jingled of fangoria gave it two and half out of four skulls while Jonathan Barkin of Bloody Disgusting gave it four out of five skulls stating it isn’t a movie meant to scare or make you think but it is one of the most entertaining and enjoyable movies of its kind that I’ve seen in years Scott Weinberg of feet wrote that aside from some very clunky editorial missteps in the film’s second half there’s a good deal of wit enthusiasm energy and amusing attitude to be found in the dumb yet self-aware Hansel and gredle witch Hunters all while noting that he is not the type to act snobbish around a ridiculous film that obviously knows it’s ridiculous according to Ryan Larsson of shock till you drop the film is a mixed bag but fortunately the low’s don’t appear as often as you would think and if taken at face value Hansel and gredle is well worth the view William bian of Craven line who criticized the film’s inadequately limp marketing campaign found the movie itself inherently stupid but in a good way played with humor Ultraviolence and anacronismo stated that the film is often mean and nasty but that’s really its Saving Grace Peter parasi recommended this super violent ENT pretty funny flick for how it Revels in the Mayhem Tom Russo of the Boston Globe giving the film three out of five stars called it a splattery fanboy fun Preposterous clearly but fun Jonathan natus of filmink wrote Hansel and gredle is not a film it’s a movie in all its unabashed excitable Glory big on blood soaked entertainment and low on pretention Rick florino of artist direct gave it four out of five stars stating this has all the elements of a classic action flick and it’s destined for cult status welcome to the most fun movie of 2013 DVD talks Jam s Rich summed up is Hansel and gredle witch hunter is a good movie probably not at least not in any way that is defensible by regular critical standards is it a hell of a good time absolutely so unabashedly so that’s all it wants to be Neil James linger of the New York Times wrote that it may not stay in the public I long because this movie is probably not going to put up twilight like numbers adding that the script doesn’t give them enough of the witty lines that can Elevate these types of movies to mustsee status which is odd since the producers include will Ferell Vince huchi of the Salt Lake Tribune suggested that this film should have been made 30 Years Ago by Sam Ry and starring Bruce Campbell while instead the Hansel and gdle were left with runs out of its magic potion far too early to let us enjoy its Wicked possibilities a more positive comparison to Remy and Campbell’s Army of Darkness was made by Pete vandar of the Houston Press who gave it three out of five witch hazel and wrote I’m not sure if witches are the next Vampire Zombies or if the hinted at franchise potential has any legs but this was a perfectly vulgar way to spend night 90 minutes Tim Gerson of screen International wrote that Hansel and gredle works best as an Unapologetic be movie action flick and feels like a first film in a franchise that’s meant to set up the main characters and conflicts which can then be fleshed out in sequels but the problem is that there isn’t enough here to Warrant a return trip to this semi- magical land Richard corus of time agreed with this sentiment stating that one might be enough too much for some tastes cult status at the conclusion of 2013 Hansel and grle witch Hunters made multiple annual movie lists dedicated to underappreciated or underrated films movies Comm oind it is hands down the most underappreciated film of the Year proper film making or not if you’ve got me cheering at the screening grinning big and then walking out with a little extra adrenaline you’ve done something right Ryan Doom from job Pablo Comm wrote that while usually that’s the thing I mock Hansel and gredle somehow ended up pretty damn enjoyable why not it never takes itself serious and it knows exactly what it is a silly film that isn’t afraid to do what the hell it wants Hansel and grle witch Hunters has hence been labeled as a cult film by a number of horror fantasy film fans as well as by some critics who initially saw no merit in the movie This significant financial and fan following have led some to question the initial perception of the film in relation to its debut in January considered to be a refuge for films that don’t have a shot of generating good word of mouth or having a leggy run while rener box office draw and the film’s well articulated premise have been listed as major factors behind its theatrical success its ability to maintain a lasting fan following has also been attributed to its original concept excellent Gore and action sequences rener and Aron’s tongue and cheek performances and the film’s ability to not take itself too seriously accolades at the 2014 People’s Choice Awards the film was nominated in the favorite horror film category but lost to carry possible sequel on March 19th 2013 Paramount announced that a sequel to the film was in the works due to overseas box office numbers Hansel and gredle producers Ferell McKay messic and Flynn were reported to return in June 2013 McKay officially confirmed his involvement and said that everyone feels like as good as the first one is we can really Jack it up a level with the second one so fingers crossed everyone will come back McKay suggested that Paramount might insist on having the sequel rated PG-13 talking about war cola’s pretty insane ideas for the second film K said this could be one of those instances where the sequel does go further than the first one regarding the storyline he offered one hint think of different kinds of Witchcraft in June 2014 it was reported that the sequel would have a 2016 release date in September 2014 Rola announced that he would not be returning to direct the sequel stating I want to do something a little bit different now and not just do sequels I did write the script and I hope to be involved in it but yeah I won’t be directing it he said the first film was a learning curve for me working in the studio system and the script I wrote for the original was so different than the final movie we ended up taking a lot out and altering stuff that first time I tried taking what I learned and still delivered a sequel script that’s an R-rated action film shortly after rener stated that without Rola directing again he might be less like to return for the sequel on August 7th 2015 it was reported that Bruno avalin would make his feature film debut directing the sequel with Rola as a writer and executive producer despite the flurry of media reports from 2013 to 2015 as of March 2023 no sequel has ever been released and Bruno avalin has yet to direct a feature film Hansel and gredle witch hunter movie review Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is not a good film it’s inconsistently acted and somehow both underwritten and overplotted but it has some good things going for it for one it’s not outrageously dumber than its revisionist folklore themed predecessors van Hing Red Riding Hood or TVs once upon a time and it’s far more goofy violent it also boasts a nice Title Credit sequence and a Brisk running time but most importantly the long sheld pick is set to bow with little serus boo competition ensuring suitable time for crumb gathering before it’s consigned to obscurity to his credit Hansel and gredle writer director Tommy wara never takes the pick’s premise the titular Grim siblings grow into wise cracking primitive machine gun packing bounty hunters thanks to that fateful spell in the gingerbread house too seriously yet while the film rarely provokes any strenuous eye rolling it it also can’t drum up even the slightest interest in the fate of its characters let alone suspense cursing with anacronismo coats and leather pants Jeremy rener and Gemma Aron Star as The Sibling Slayers who have parlayed their childhood Fame into a thriving witch hunting business called upon to investigate disappearing children in a Woodland Village the two run a foul of the local sheriff Peter Stormare when they interrupt a Witch Hunt in progress the woman in question P vatala turns out to be a white witch with a thing for Hansel her pretense for skinny dipping makes Prince’s Lake minona line seem like the height of subtle seduction while gredle is stalked by a sort of medieval Fanboy Thomas man who tirelessly follows her exploits in newspapers meanwhile a particularly vindictive witch famp Jansen from the surrounding Forest redoubles her efforts to terrorize the town’s folk Rola introduces some moderately clever touches here and there the missing children posters strapped to Medieval milk bottles are worth a laugh and making Hansel a diabetic thanks to his childhood sugar trauma is a smart idea that the film unceremoniously abandons but these are few and far between a film with a concept this strange has no right to be so dully formulaic yet after 15 minutes the script has entirely exhausted its Sparks of real invention the action is frequent and competently staged all the same a distressing feeling of sameness takes over Midway through and viewers may be surprised to find themselves yawning as yet another which is ripped apart limb from limb sending yet another wave of viscous loosing toward the camera on that note the pick isn’t helped by renner’s Apparent disdain for the material his Hansel may be a bit of a jaded Ruffian but the weary groan he seems to keep stifling has nothing to do with the character as written Jansen is likewise unconvincing meaning that Aron registers as the films stand out fesp Simply by being its most willing participant spunky bouncing up after numerous beatings of which she is far more likely to be the recipient than her sibling curiously and sparring semic cutely with man while visual effects and production design are solid Hansel and grus 3D work is surprisingly shoddy and distracting for reasons both creative the frequency of protrusive blades and flying debris and Technical a fuzzy gray Sheen that appears during the film’s numerous night scenes Germany’s Studio bburg Lot provides some attractively picturesque Village Grime other information about this film have you ever thought about what happened to little Hansel and gredle after they escaped that evil witch’s gingerbread house probably not but Norwegian writer director Tommy Rola did and in his world the pair grew up to be Kick-Ass witch Hunters complete with leather pants and crossbows after a setup showing the young Hansel and gredle shoving the witch into the oven the film picks up 15 years later where the grown-up pair played by Jeremy rener and Jemma Aron has been summoned to a village in Germany to deal with the nasty witch Muriel fun Jansen who lurks in the dark Forest nearby the sheriff of the Town Peter Stormare is not happy with the two stealing his thunder so does his best to stop them and Lead his own Witch Hunt despite being set in Germany in the vague one 800s the characters speak with a strange mix of accents of course nothing in this world is realistic but a decision between sounding American English or German seems like it would be a small thing to fix thankfully some of the humor is great jokes are peppered with swearing making for a few funny and unexpected moments though one recurring joke about hansel’s diabetes feels like a very heavy-handed way of saying don’t eat candy kids the action is also a lot gorier and brutal than you may expect with loads of fake blood as heads get smooshed and witches get smacked down but between 2D and 3D go with 2D as the 3D is cheesy consisting of arrows blood Etc flying towards your face which distracts rather than enhances the experience there are quite a few familiar visual moments we’ve seen many times one example a hazy point of view shot as gredle wakes up from passing out to find she’s being carried similar to a shot in Where the Wild Things Are and many others so the direction feels very paint by numbers the plot of Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is also very standard you know exactly how it is going to play out so are never worried how the pair will Faire during the climactic action scenes there’s also a setup at the end signaling a possible franchise which will depend on the box office takings of course but the 10 extra months it took this film to come to theaters doesn’t bode well for any future witch hunting for Hansel and gredle positive elements that last bit of introspection isn’t really in this movie Just so you know but there is at least one other positive worth mentioning Hansel and gredle routinely risk their lives to take down the worst of their lands evil denisons saving whatever children might need saving while they’re at it their Moxy inspires others to chip in to mina a lovely villager who was nearly burned as a witch herself an ogre who previously served in the nefarious coven of a certain powerful witch named Muriel a youth who hopes to become a witch hunter himself one day while none of these characters are necessarily Paragons of virtue they do what in the movie’s troubled ethos must be done spoiler warning it’s important to note that h and grd’s parents didn’t just desert their kids because they wanted to go play the slot somewhere turns out their mother was a good witch who sensed that villagers were coming to kill her so she casts a spell to permanently protect her children from bad witch magic and sends them away for their own safety leaving herself at the mercy of the mob the concept of good witches is always problematic of course but we must still LOD mom for doing a supremely motherly thing here they died to save you Muriel snidle tells gredle and Hansel and when another white witch sacrifices herself to save Hansel Muriel declares her pathetic we naturally would beg to differ spiritual elements Hansel and Gretel witch hunter is filthy with witches we’ve already established that but just what sorts of witches are they that’s a more ticklish question most of them are flat out bad so bad that we see them attempt to sacrifice children and others under a blood red moon the most Unholy holiday these witches have seen for several years and we know that that first witch Hansel and gredle encountered love to eat kids someone refers to the witches as spawn of Satan we later learn of the existence of the so-called white witches they don’t look ugly they don’t use their magic for evil in fact we rarely see them use Magic at all but we know that when they bless weapons those weapons are far more effective on run of the- Mill evil witches and while practicing white sorcery still involves spell books and such becoming a white witch is less a matter of choice and more a matter of heredity in Hansel and gretel’s World which explains why the evil witches are so keen on capturing the CBS Muriel hopes to make herself and her sisters invulnerable to Fire and thus nigh invincible but to work this delicate piece of magic she needs the heart from a Great White Witch gredle is that witch even though gredle herself doesn’t realize it until Muriel is actively trying to remove her heart from her rib cage theologically then these witches are in a pickle sometimes they reflect a traditional Christian understanding of Witchcraft at others they seem to embody a more naturalist understanding of magic ever so slightly akin to Harry Potter and then you’ve got elements of either a yin-yang or good vs Evil Showdown a battle between inherently light and inherently dark creatures that doesn’t have much to do with witchcraft as typically understood at all a man about to be killed by a witch says please God no to which the witch responds even your God knows better than to come here a woman crosses herself before getting shot we see a cult looking texts and charts sexual content Mina disres and Wades naked into a pool of healing water and we see both her exposed breasts and backside she invites Hansel to join her which he does the two begin kissing in the pool before the camera turns its attention elsewhere the next time we see the lovers they’re getting dressed with Mina asking Hansel if he might visit her again should he be in the area then a young wannabe witch hunter cares for an unconscious Gretel swabbing her face with a wet cloth his Focus shifts ever lower until he begins dabbing the swell of her breasts ministrations that are quickly terminated when gredle revives violent content Muriel casts a spell on a Woodby tracker causing strange grub like things to crawl under his skin we see them skitter under his forehead he later walks into a Tavern delivers a message and then literally explodes showering blood and gore on everyone there Muriel captures another man via Forest tendrils which lasso his arms legs and head and literally pull him apart an ogre crushes one man’s head like a grape and Stomps another’s head into the ground like a pumpkin spraying blood everywhere and witches themselves apparently bleed just like everybody else Hansel and Mina blast a massive Sabbat full of witches with steampunk Weaponry some of the witches are obliterated by a hail of bless bullets others are painfully skewered or hacked apart a few flying away are sliced into Nugget sized bits of meat when they hit a web of lethal wire strung up between trees one is crushed by a falling Pine Hansel and grle behead a witch with a shovel which vs which Hunter battles are filled with flying fists and feet and whole bodies participants Dodge or sometimes don’t inexhaustible numbers of blades and arrows and bullets and magical flying ecals and since in this movies ethos witches are always female most of this violence is perpetrated against and often by women a witch via magic forces a boy to shoot his own mother and a man to commit suicide with a shotgun a man struggles as he hangs from a noose his wife Burns in a py Beyond dogs attack and kill their masters Hansel is painfully dragged via broomstick through a forest winding up high in a tree he escapes by Falling hard to the ground grle head buts a sheriff making his nose spurt blood later she nearly bites the guy schnaz right off which generates even more gushing blood an ogre is revived through primitive shock therapy folks get stabbed children are threatened a witch is thrown into an oven and burned alive we see cartoon depictions of witch exterminations a witch is brutally interrogated involving punches to her face leaving her bloody a witch holds her hand over and Open Flame until it begins to hurt her crude or profane language a half dozen f-words and about the same number of his words a variety of milder profanities include a b CH h d n and H we hear one or two misuses of God’s name drug and alcohol content witch Hunters and others drink liquor Hansel regular injects himself with medication to stay alive conclusion Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is a dumb kitchy sloppy salacious bit of film making there is no real character development there’s barely a plot this movie makes spongy boob Square pins look like a work by Tolstoy instead of a solid narrative then there’s lots and lots and lots of blood the flimsy flick wallows in it splashes through it practically drowns under the weight of it I can only Echo the sentiments surely voiced by the unhappy Village’s underpaid sanitation Specialists after one of many nearby battles what a mess what you need to know Hansel and gredle which Hunters is an action horror movie after their father leaves them in the woods and doesn’t return Hansel and gredle encounter their first evil witch they kill her and then embark on a career of killing witches for hire cut to Hansel and gredle as adults they are being hired to find and return some children kidnapped by evil witches for nefarious purposes eventually they become the hunted themselves they also learn some secrets about their parents including their mother Hansel and gredle which Hunters is in part intended to be cute with some campy humor it’s not intended to be taken seriously also the heroes use the f word in a medieval setting they are modern tough Hansel and gredle is rated R for foul language brief nudity and extreme bloody gruesome action violence worse perhaps this lowquality nasty movie comes with a very strong occult world view where white witches battle evil witches there’s no such thing as a good witch however according to God therefore media wise movie aers will want to avoid this Hansel and gredle content very strong Ault worldview with some strong mixed or Pagan content about very evil black witches and some good white witches plus the two title characters who spoiler don’t know their mother was a white witch so they can be two including the use of physical weapons like guns primitive taser weapons and knives to fight defeat and kill evil black witches who kidnap children to sacrifice them for an occult result but their plans for the children and other occult projects are defeated with some light moral elements about rescuing children and stopping evil one mention of God in one line even God knows better than to come here and some light Redemptive elements of sacrifice 16 obscenities including some fword no profanities and under a spell man eats worms then vomits them on people some very strong extreme R-rated violence and plenty of action violence includes fighting shooting stabbing beheading hanging burnings man under a spell blows his head off man’s head squashed by a large creature and lots of blood splattering on faces and clothing one sexual moment where woman disres and where a man and the woman kiss while naked in a lake upper female nudity when a woman disres and walks into Lake with back and breasts exposed witches use some sort of potion drugs and revenge dishonesty children kidnapped by evil forces more detail Hansel and gredle witch Hunters features two children who grow up killing witches and become medieval superheroes filled with occult content about very evil black witches and some good white witches foul language and excessive bloody violence the movie is not fit for viewing by Discerning audiences the movie opens with a father taking young Hansel and gredle into the woods he tells them to stay and that he’ll be back but he doesn’t return Hansel and gredle come across a candy house are lured inside and wind up fighting their first witch as the opening credits start to roll their childhood exploits as witch Hunters are extolled cut to Hansel and gredle as adults they are being hired to find and return some children kidnapped by evil witches for nefarious purposes eventually they become the hunted themselves they also learned some secrets about their parents including their mother the story in Hansel and gredle involves white and black witches the black witches certainly make witchcraft look horrible the white witches are shown to be heroic the problem is that witchcraft is presented with Hollywood CGI effects in such a way as to make them more like movie Monsters than real people thus the filmmakers seem to have their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks they treat their story in a campy way designed to provoke some laughs however witchcraft is a very real activity condemned by God it does involve curses spells and demonic activity even though the movie shows dark witchcraft to be despicable and revolting it comes across as just as unreal as zombies aliens and werewolves it’s not however also you can’t defeat evil sorcery and Witchcraft by white witchcraft the Bible says in Ephesians 6:12 our fight is not against people on earth but against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s Darkness against the spiritual powers of evil in the Heavenly world real witchcraft involves the powers of this world’s Darkness combating Darkness involves prayer and faith not wooden Stakes or witch burnings spiritual warfare is just that spiritual the danger is that naive people completely blind to spiritual warfare will dabble in bad things they have no idea are bad therefore witchcraft isn’t something to dismiss as simple movie monster fodder of course pansel and gredle witch Hunters is in part intended to be cute the heroes use the F in a medieval setting they are modern tough finally while the visuals and special effects are up to Hollywood’s gruesome standards for this sort of R-rated movie mova guide finds Hansel and gredle to be of low quality simply because it relies so heavily on nastiness to tell its story $60 Million worth of blood and gore is not quality Hansel and grle is one movie media wise consumers will want to avoid even if they fit the age level intended by the R rating Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is a 2d3 American fantasy horror film that stars Jeremy rener and Gemma Aron as the siblings from the fairy tale Hansel and gredle who are now grown up and work together to exterminate witches for hire the film is written and directed by Tommy wola the film also Stars F Jansen and Peter Stormare as The Supporting Cast in 2010 after being approached by Gary Sanchez from critics particularly for what they saw as its weak script and gratuitous violence the film was a box office hit grossing dollar 226 million worldwide against a production budget of $150 million plot as in the original fairy tale Hansel and Gretel as children are abandoned by their father in a forest where they come across a gingerbread house on entering it they are captured by a cannibalistic witch who makes gredle prepare the oven while forcing Hansel to continuously eat sweets to fatten him up the children outsmart her before she could eat them incinerating her in the oven over the following many years Hansel and gredle now in their adolescence have become famed witch Hunters slaying many witches without succumbing to harmful spells and curses of the Witchcraft although the incident in the gingerbread house has left Handel with a magic induced form of diabetes and he needs to inject himself with a shot of insulin every few hours Hansel and gredle arrive in the town of Augsburg in time to prevent Sheriff bearinger from executing the young woman Mina for witchcraft mayor inlan has hired the siblings to rescue the town’s missing children who are presumed abducted by witches bearinger hires trackers for the same Mission hoping to disgrace the mayor and cementing his power Hansel and gredle capture the horned witch and discover that the witches are preparing for the coming blood moon where they plan to sacrifice 12 children to gain immunity to fire their greatest weakness the mayor assigns Jackson a local resident and tracker to assist them in navigating the forest but they wait until morning before setting out the grand dark witch Muriel attacks the town with her Army and abducts the 12th child she attacks Gretel who is rescued by Ben a local teenager and Avid fan of theirs who plans to become a witch hunter himself Jackson is slain in the fight by Muriel after attempting to assist gredle Hansel falls from a witch’s broomstick and is lost in the forest the next morning Mina finds him stuck in a tree and takes him to a nearby spring where she heals his wounds and they make love in The Healing Waters of the spring Gretel is attacked by bearinger and his posi who beat her before being stopped by Muriel’s troll Edward he kills all of the men and tells grle that he helped her because trolls serve witches Hansel and gredle discover an abandoned cabin that they learn is a witch’s Lair and their childhood home Muriel tells them the truth of their past Hansel and gretel’s mother was the Great White Witch Adria who married a farmer on the night of the last blood moon Muriel planned to complete the Fire protective potion key to which is the heart of a grand white witch as Adrienne’s white magic was more powerful than Muriel’s black magic Muriel decided to use gretel’s heart instead to get rid of Adriana she revealed to the town’s people that she was a witch the angry rampaging mob burned her alive and hanged Hansel and gretel’s father who had left them in the forest to protect them although Adria was a powerful witch she’d never use her white magic against humans even in self-defense the siblings fight Muriel before she stabs Hansel and abducts gredle to complete her long overdue ceremony Hansel wakes up with Mina who reveals herself to be a white witch she heals him again and uses Adrien as grimoire to bless his arsenal of weapons Hansel Mina and Ben disrupt The Witch’s Sabbath Mina Slaughters The Witches with a gattling gun while Hansel frees the children Edward defies Muriel and releases gredle as punishment Muriel throws the troll off a cliff gredle finds Edward’s lifeless body and manages to resuscitate him Hansel Ben and Mina follow Muriel’s trail to the original gingerbread house now dilapidated and run down Muriel kills Mina before Hansel shoots her the siblings engage her in a brutal fight that ends with them decapitating her with a shovel they burn Muriel’s body on a py and collect their reward for rescuing the children in the end they head out on their next Witch Hunt now accompanied by Ben and Edward cast Jeremy rener as the brother of grle and a witch hunter who takes insulin following an incident at a witch’s gingerbread house Gemma Aron as gredle the sister of Hansel and a witch hunter fank Jansen as Muriel an evil Grand witch who rules over a coven of dark witches unlike lesser witches she has the ability to change her appearance into that of a normal human woman Peter Stormare as Sheriff bearinger the power hungry and brutal Sheriff of a ber who does not trust Hansel and gredle Thomas man as Benjamin Ben waler a teenage fan of Hansel and gredle Derek MIRS as Edward a troll that is in the services of Muriel he serves Muriel and her coven but befriends gredle by healing her and becomes Hansel and gretel’s Ally Robin Atkin Downs as Edward voice P vitala asmina A beautiful white witch who befriends Hansel and gredle rer boach as mayor ingelman Bjorn sunquist as Jackson a Tracker who is assigned by the mayor to assist Hansel and gredle ingred Balo burle as horned witch a member of Muriel’s personal coven with many horns on her head Joanna kulig as red-haired witch a red-haired member of Muriel’s personal coven development Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is the first English language film and the first big Studio production of Norwegian writer and director Rola up to this point best known for his 2009 Nazi Zombie themed independent horror and comedy film Dead Snow Rola said he was contacted by producer Kevin messic from Gary Sanchez Productions after the screening of dead snow at the Sundance Film Festival so my first meeting my first day in Los Angeles was with those guys and I pitched Hansel and gredle and they loved it and they took me to Paramount to 2 days after and we sold it in 2013 Rola said I’m still surprised that they went for it because it’s a crazy rock and roll script It’s Full Throttle there’s lots of blood and gore and bad language I often wonder how I got this movie made it’s all across the world now but people really seem to respond to it which is what we hoped that people would enjoy this ride an announcement of Hansel and gredle witch Hunters sparked a production of several other Hansel and Gretel based films made by different Studios including the asylum’s mockbuster Hansel and Gretel CFI witchs Slayer gredle and Lion’s gate home entertainments Hansel and gredle Warriors of Witchcraft the film was a part of an overall Hollywood trend of witch themed films including Beautiful Creatures which stars Thomas man and Oz the Great and Powerful set to be released that same season the project was given a budget of dollar 50 million co-financed by Metro Goldwin mayor casting and characters Jeremy rener who played the film’s adult Hansel has stated that his initial attraction came from a one sheet he was given even before seeing the script showing Hansel and gredle walking away and a witch burning at a stake in the background which he found incredibly interesting the scene was included in the finished film he added when I read the script my first thought was I can’t believe this hasn’t been done yet it’s such a great idea with so much potential that Dynamic was definitely a big thing I loved that what Tommy wola wrote left so much room for character worka said he wanted rener in the role after seeing him in The Hurt Locker Rola who described Hansel as the Loose Cannon of the duo gave him an additional character flaw of diabetes in addition to the psychological scars that Hansel shares with his sister in the original idea for the short film gredle was also suffering from eating disorder rener said it was a great escape for him as this was a fairy tale with no stress like the other action movies I’d done recently I was having so much fun hanging on a wire like Peter Pan hanging on to a broom and doing other crazy stuff he stated that was one of the most fun jobs I’ve ever had because there’s something magical about that old world fantasy thing the role of adult grle whom worka wanted to be a really really strong and fun female character was originally planned for numi rapes who dropped out of consideration for the part prior to early January 2011 Diane Krueger and Eva Green were reported to also be in talks for the role English actress Gemma ariton was ultimately cast in the role she impressed Rola with her performance in The Disappearance of Alice Creed and after they have met with her really filthy sense of humor as the humor is essential to this film Aron said she was attracted to work cola’s strong vision for the film calling it very very dark and bloodthirsty and there’s a lot of cursing it’s kind of got a Tarantino feel really Arterton described her character as much more in tune with her spiritual side Hansel is a typical Action Hero cheeky funny a womanizer she’s much more of of a thinker intense internal and bit more open-minded than he is she said that Gretel is a sexual character but she’s not having sex with anybody which is a change for me because usually in my films I’m sleeping with somebody she further explained the characters Hansel and gredle have this Unstoppable Bond but they’re also so different from each other she’s the brains of the operation he’s the Braun he’s the Joker and the showoff she’s more The Watcher the researcher the one who tries to really understand witchcraft Arterton added Jeremy rener and I found within the script moments where we showed the vulnerable side of them often in action movies people are scared to put that in I think it was important she said that she loved every minute of the production and did not want it to end also crediting it for helping her overcome her fear of getting hurt the role of the chief which m described by Aron as the queen bee of witches was given to Dutch actress fank Jansen Jansen too described the film as Tarantino esque with a lot of blood gore and exploding witches Rola said he had a crush on Jansen since he saw her in golden eye as Zenia onop an amazing villain and that in his opinion her being not only a good actress but also a beautiful woman who is huge and menacing somehow made her a perfect combination of sexy and dangerous Jansen said that at first the initial appeal was just money but she quickly took a liking of the script and of worka personally she also thought the idea of playing an evil to the core which was appealing and different saying I hadn’t done anything like it a character like a witch feels like you would have so much freedom because there are no restrictions as to what you can do later however she was constantly being distracted by the special effects work and felt that she really understood the character only in one part of the film she found the timec consuming process of applying such makeup taking 3 hours to apply and one hour to remove very strange and also felt restricted and afraid of acting over the top in her witch role in the end she still had a lot of fun playing someone who is completely evil and felt that it was so empowering to have an inner wish which to get in touch with once in a while Jansen said the film might appeal to women and girls two there’s a brother and a sister Story and there’s a romance in it too but obviously not with the witch nobody falls in love with the witch Edward a morally conflicted troll enslaved by Muriel was voiced by Robin Atkin DS and played by Derek mir’s Jason Vorhees in 29’s Friday the 13th MIRS was using an elaborate animatronic suit that he compared to kind of like NASCAR where I’m piloting it but I’m not doing it by myself I think there’s like five guys controlling the individual parts of the character there’s one person who does the eyebrows one person does the feet Jansen who could not say enough things about Tommy Work Cola said she was especially impressed at how he stuck to his specific vision and fought hard to hire a number of unknown European actors that would otherwise be unlikely to appear here in a big Studio American film in effect making it a much more International production several Nordic actors were cast in Major roles including pav vitala Peter stor who Aron said had actually inspired her to start acting bjor sunquist and ingred balso burle in addition actors from Germany and Poland including Thomas man Rainer Bach and Joanna kulig and other parts of the world were also cast viitala a self-described big fan of rener said she was nervous at first but found him extremely easy to approach made a good connection and enjoyed working with him Rola said burle was chosen for her piercing eyes adding there are a lot of Norwegians in the film minor Parts but I knew I could get great actors in small parts and ingred has a great physicality stor said he was only surprised at how smart Tom worka is and how broad this fantasy is and the span of his imagination his favorite aspect being how some of the witches are so sexy and cool he compared the film’s production to being in Disneyland saying it felt like a dream to him filming War Cola said from day one I was very clear that I wanted to shoot this thing in Europe I really wanted that European feel of cold mountains big forests that sort of spirit was important to me luckily we did get to shoot it in Germany which is the homeland of the fairy tale shooting in natural outdoor sets is very important to me compared to working on a Sound Stage it took place in Germany at the bburg studio in potom bburg in a filming location at an Old Forest near Berlin production designer Steven Scott said that he searched for and found what he believed looked like a medieval Forest free of human interference and in the city of Brun schwag in lower sax after the film was delayed to 2013 the crew did a couple of re-shoot including a little bit in the deserts of California filming the post-ending scene an extended version of which was also released in a promotional clip the desert witch principal photography began on March 13 2011 and concluded on June 3 2011 using digital cinematography worka said hopefully you can see what I’m inspired by Ry and Jackson actually I’m a big fan of Steven Spielberg and the way he shoots action scenes I think in a lot of modern action movies it’s hard to see what’s going on shaky cam hopefully what we strived for was to go a little retro and how you shoot action scenes the film was shot in 3D and its real 3D shots were done by lead stereographer Florian mayor and his team from stereotech Rola said we shot half of it in real 3D and the other half was postcon converted actually the 3D thing wasn’t there in the beginning it was something the studio suggested later on we embraced it and I think it actually really helps in getting people into this fairy tale world the filming process took 3 months a 12-minute b-roll footage was later released on the internet stunt coordinator and second unit director David lch compared it to a jackiechan hybrid of comedy and action prior to the filming Lech organized a monthlong boot camp in order to prepare rener and Aron who said she was also glad that at least she could use her prior training that she received while studying at Raa with extensive weapons fight and stunt training Jansen said she enjoyed flying something that she always wanted to do adding that despite her reputation as an action star it was the first film where she really had to do something physical including suffering a minor accident on the set because she could not use a double in the close-up scenes where she had the makeup on during one of the scenes where gredle is thrown through a wall and falls down several meters a stunt double for Aron was dangerously injured when a nail got lodged in her skull close to the brain Arterton said she initially wanted to do this stunt herself but Rola would not let her Arterton herself suffered an injury when she sprained her ankle while running through the forest stunts for the more aggressive witches were done by New Zealander stuntwoman and actress Zoe Bell who also portrayed the tall witch in the beginning of the film rener did practically all of his stunt scenes himself visual effects and post-production the film’s visual effects were created using mostly practical Effects supplemented by computer generated imagery CGI created by Hammerhead VFX for about 15% of the film’s special effects such as is the Transformations Rola said I’m a big believer in just using CGI to polish what you get on camera for me that’s the ideal use of CGI we have a troll in the film that is animatronic I loved him it took some convincing to get the studio along with the animatronic creature there have been bad experiences with animatronics throughout various Productions but I saw this company spectral motion they did the Hellboy movies and I just loved it Cola added I come from Norway where we can’t afford CGI but this is a Fantastical world of witches and trolls and I wanted to ground the movie where I could the blood should look real Jansen however despite RCA’s warnings was not entirely prepared for how involved and long that was going to be and actually wanted to burn the prosthetic makeup by the end of the movie She recalled being so overwhelmed by what this prosthetic business was all about saying acting has been so specific for me and what I’ve learned eyes facial expressions all of that stuff and with something like this you’re robbed of all of this or I could no longer rely on things I’ve done in the past it was different and frustrating at times because I had this circus of people around me in case something became unglued Muriel and the other principal witches were prepared by Mike Eliza’s spectral motion who also created and handled the animatronic troll John farat was the visual effects supervisor and aerial second unit director conceptual design and Production Studio picture Mill collaborated with worka and mesik to create the title and opening credits sequence telling some of the Early Adventures of Hansel and gredle as they grew up to become famous witch Hunters it was created with stereo 3D toolbox through a combination of handdrawn illustrations practical fire effects and CGI animation the digital color correction was supervised by Stefan sonnenfeld Jansen said the film is definitely played with a bit of a wink and doesn’t take itself too seriously Rola himself described it as a little more grounded and action centered than Dead Snow he recalled that he has tried to downplay Comedy elements if you go too far it can turn into a spoof almost we shot a lot more than what is in the movie of course and it’s just balancing it when you’re cutting speaking of graphic violence he said that the first version we tested was for sure the most extreme some stuff stayed in some stuff got cut out by August 2012 Paramount was reportedly test screening two versions of the film rated R and PG-13 and the R-rated cut received the positive feedback worka said I was afraid I actually made sure they could never cut it to PG-13 we always knew it was going to be R McKay said that Paramount’s Adam Goodman was perceptive enough to see the same thing and got behind it as well Rola said the pre-production and shooting went very smooth but the post-production was very new to me and how they do things here with testing in the studio he said about the test screenings in particular I can see why they do it there’s a lot of money involved and they want it to hit as broad as possible but I think it’s a flawed process I really do McKay said that Paramount Executives might nevertheless regret the film’s R rating music Hans Zimmer worked on witch Hunters as an executive music producer 0 Icelandic composer Atley ivarson co-author of Zimmer’s score for Pirates of the Caribbean at World’s End created the film score Irv arson had previously scored Season of the Witch so initially he was a bit apprehensive to work on another witchcraft film but was too fond of the story to say no and found Tommy War cola’s take on the subject matter to be very refreshing bvars found it easier to collaborate with Rola due to their shared Nordic Heritage and said that their discussions about the music for the film might have had some of the most cold and dark humor of any Hollywood Music meetings the film’s soundtrack Hansel and gredle witch Hunters music from the motion picture was released in MP3 format by parent Paramount music on January 22 2013 a physical soundtrack album was released on January 29 2013 from La La Land records the song Bundy by Norwegian rock band animal Alpha is used during the films and credits but is not included on the film soundtrack theatrical initially slated for March 2 2012 release the film was pushed by Paramount Pictures to a 10-month delay for January 11 2013 co-producer Kevin messic later said we’d finished it but we were still discussing adding a Kota scene which we were able to shoot and there was always the consideration that Jeremy rener had Avengers and Bourne coming out so the studio made a wise strategic move in finding a good release date for us Rola said that the main reason is because they wanted to wait on Jeremy he was cast before Mission Impossible born and the Avengers they wanted to wait until after those I was of course disappointed then but actually it helped because we came in under budget and so the delay enabled him to read and shoot an additional scene that is set in the desert and which was cut from his original screenplay the first trailer for the film was released on September 5th 2012 the film was again delayed by 2 weeks to January 25 2013 in the United States and Canada a state statement from Paramount suggested that the film was delayed to enable it to be released in a Max 3D format in early January 2013 illegal copies of the film were discovered in a major anti-piracy bust prior to its North American Premiere pansel and grle witch Hunters was first released in Russia on January 17 followed by the Technologies in Mexico it was the first feature film to be shown in cinemax’s New x4d Motion X theater format provided by medium home media Hansel and grle witch Hunters was released by Paramount Home media Distribution on June 11 2013 in its original theatrical cut and a unrated cut with an extra 10 minutes of footage aside from additional profanity Gore and sexual content and a few extra lines the extended version features a few extra scenes in one scene bearinger blames the mayor for the witch’s attack and murders him in public the scene where bearinger and his goons assault gredle is also extended it occurs in between the scene where Mina heals Hansel and has sex with him and shows that the men plan to rape gredle Wright before Edward kills them box office Los Angeles Times predicted the film would become a box office Bullseye with pre-release audience surveys indicating an expected do30 million for the opening weekend in the United States one week prior to the US release the film opened to a huge $186 million in Russia the all-time 50th best opening in rosis which made its International prospects look good according to Yahoo news Entertainment Weekly predicted the film would likely top the chart in its debut weekend with $17 million similarly movie web predicted $175 million Paramount said they counted on $120 million speaking on January 31 Rola claimed the film had so far opened in 19 territories and went to number one in 18 of them the US initial midnight screening at selected theaters made an estimated $1 500,000 a Soo result the film took the top position on its North American box office with $119 million the first days under performance blamed on bad weather on the US East Coast in addition it earned $125 million in several other territories where it had already been released representing about 40% of the international market however it held well during its box office run dropping only 52% in its second weekend and 39% in its third and fourth on March 19 Reuters reported that while the film was no Blockbuster in the United States it was much better received in other countries for a1259 million total H to date including 241 million in brazil1 19 million in russia4 million in Mexico And1 128 million in Germany the film’s theatrical run ended on April 25 with a total growth of do 2257 million including 557 million domestically Hansel and gredle witch Hunters was Paramount’s fourth highest grossing film of 2013 following new graphic novel and franchise entries World War Z Star Trek Into Darkness and GI Joe retaliation respectively it is estimated that following published production costs marketing and advertising fees and the percentage of International Revenue that was lost by the domestic Studio similar fantasy reboots such as Snow White and the Huntsman Mirror Mirror Jack the Giant Slayer Abraham Lincoln vampire Hunter and I Frankenstein fail to match the total Studio winnings for Hansel and grle witch Hunters which makes it one of the most financially successful films of the fantasy rabo genre despite having the smallest estimated budget and lowest Metacritic score of the recent entries critical response on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes the film holds an approval rating of 16% based on 146 reviews with an average rating of 410 the site’s critical consensus reads alternately bloody and silly Hansel and gredle witch Hunters fails as both a fantasy adventure and as a parody of same on Metacritic the film has a score of 23 out of 100 based on 25 critics indicating generally unfavorable reviews audiences pulled by cinemascore gave the film an average grade of B on an A plus to f scale Claudia Puig of USA Today wrote this convoluted hybrid of fairy tale and fantasy action comedy horror aims for campy fun but comes off tedious and blood spattered Andrew Barker of variety called the film inconsistently acted and somehow both underwritten and overplotted and while the action Is frequent and competently staged it might feel too repetitive as yet another which is ripped apart limb from limb sending yet another wave of viscera sosing toward the camera similarly Stephanie Mary of the Washington Post wrote that after a while it’s easy to become numb to the repulsive sights and bored by action that once seemed intense and exciting in this rarely funny spoof That’s Heavy on bone crushing and blood gushing giving it one and half star out of four Steven Farber of The Hollywood Reporter wrote a scathing review saying that while work Cola makes the most of the 3D technology the film is too fanciful to be truly revolting for its Gore effects and despite its few Ry jokes the script is awfully thin Roger Moore of the Charlotte Observer gave the film 1 and a half out of four stars writing that Rola focuses on the fights and flings all manner of visera at the 3D camera as limbs are whacked off and heads and torsos explode less attention was paid to the story and the dialogue is a tad over reliant on the random F-word to land a laugh cat Murphy of MSN gave it one star out of four comparing this big budget faux fairy tale about skanky witches to a downscale video game for dull-eyed teens happy to lap up lame Wise Cracks and lots of Gore according to vultures Bill jiri if the similarly situated Abraham Lincoln vampire Hunter took itself too seriously the problem with Hansel and gredle is that it doesn’t quite take itself seriously enough Keith staswick of Entertainment Weekly gave the film a c calling it an intermittently fun but overe excited and predictable mismash Alicia Malone ofine rated it a 4510 stating there are a few funny moments but overall Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is too similar to many films we’ve seen before Callum Marsh of Slant Magazine lambasted the film’s sub Tim Burton aesthetic and wrote that the result suggests a night’s tale as penned by Seth McFarlan giving it zero out of four stars Scott a gray of exclaim praised some elements of the film such as Lush and colorful art design that recalls a gillermo Del Toro production sound creature makeup and special effects decently Cor graphed action scenes and a pair of leads who do their damst to sell the limp script giving it a score of 410 Chris Knight of the Vancouver Sun called it a mess of a fairy tale expecting a Wiccan outcry at the film’s depiction nay endorsement of the torture of witch folk Liam Lacy of the globe and male gave it one star out of four concerned how it has an alarming number of females being strung up burned shot decapitated and eviscerated ated some reception of the film was more positive Michael jingled of fangoria gave it two and half out of four skulls while Jonathan Barkin of Bloody Disgusting gave it four out of five skulls stating it isn’t a movie meant to scare or make you think but it is one of the most entertaining and enjoyable movies of its kind that I’ve seen in years Scott Weinberg of fet wrote that aside from some very clunky editorial missteps in the film’s second half there’s a good deal of wit enthusiasm energy and amusing attitude to be found in the dumb yet self-aware Hansel and gredle which Hunters all while noting that he is not the type to act snobbish around a ridiculous film that obviously knows it’s ridiculous according to Ryan Larsson of shock till you drop the film is a mixed bag but fortunately the low’s don’t appear as often as you would think and if taken at face value Hansel and grle is well worth the view William bibian of Craven line who criticized the film’s inadequately limp marketing campaign found the movie itself inherently stupid but in a good way played with humor Ultraviolence and anacronismo stated that the film is often mean and nasty but that’s really its Saving Grace Peter Paris ofie recommended this super violent pretty funny flick for how it Revels in the Mayhem Tom Russo of the Boston Globe giving the film three out of five stars called it a splattery fanboy fun Preposterous clearly but fun Jonathan natsis of filmink wrote Hansel and gredle is not a film it’s a movie in all its unabashed excitable Glory big on blood soaked entertainment and low on pretension Rick florino of artist direct gave it four out of five stars stating this has all the element of a classic action flick and it’s destined for cult status welcome to the most fun movie of 2013 DVD talks Jam s Rich summed up is Hansel and gredle witch Hunters a good movie probably not at least not in any way that is defensible by regular critical standards is it a hell of a good time absolutely so unabashedly so that’s all it wants to be Neil James linger of the new York Times wrote that it may not stay in the public I long because this movie is probably not going to put up twilight like numbers adding that the script doesn’t give them enough of the witty lines that can Elevate these types of movies to must SE status which is odd since the producers include will frell Vince huchi of the Salt Lake Tribune suggested that this film should have been made 30 Years Ago by Sam Ry and starring Bruce Campbell while instead the Hansel and gdle were left with runs out of its magic potion far too early to let us enjoy its Wicked possibilities a more positive comparison to Ry and Campbell’s Army of Darkness was made by Pete vhar of the Houston Press who gave it three out of five witch hazel and wrote I’m not sure if witches are the next Vampire Zombies or if the hinted at franchise potential has any legs but this was a perfectly vulgar way to spend 90 minutes Tim Gerson of screen International wrote that Hansel and gredle works best as an Unapologetic be movie action flick and feels like a first film in a franchise that’s meant to set up the main characters and conflicts which can then be fleshed out in sequels but the problem is that there isn’t enough here to Warrant a return trip to this semi- magical land Richard corus of time agreed with this sentiment stating that one might be enough too much for some tastes cult status at the conclusion of 2013 Hansel and grle witch Hunters made multiple annual movie lists dedicated to underappreciated or underrated films movies Comm oind it is hands down the most underappreciated film of the Year proper film making or not if you’ve got me cheering at the screening grinning big and then walking out with a little extra adrenaline you’ve done something right Ryan Doom from jbloom wrote that while usually that’s the thing I mock Hansel and gredle somehow ended up pretty damn enjoyable why not it never takes itself serious and it knows exactly what it is a silly film that isn’t afraid to do what the hell it wants Hansel and grle witch Hunters has hence been labeled as a cult film by a number of horror fantasy film fans as well as by some critics who initially saw no merit in the movie This significant financial and fan following have led some to question the initial perception of the film in relation to its debut in January considered to be a refuge for films that don’t have a shot of generating good word of mouth or having a leggy run while rener box office draw and the film’s well articulated premise have been listed as major factors behind its theatrical success its ability to maintain a lasting fan following has also been attributed to its original concept excellent Gore and action sequences rener and Aron’s t in cheek performances and the film’s ability to not take itself too seriously accolades at the 2014 People’s Choice Awards the film was nominated in the favorite horror film category but lost to carry possible sequel on March 19th 2013 Paramount announced that a sequel to the film was in the works due to overseas box office numbers Hansel and gredle producers frell McKay messic and Flynn were were reported to return in June 2013 McKay officially confirmed his involvement and said that everyone feels like as good as the first one is we can really Jack it up a level with the second one so fingers crossed everyone will come back McKay suggested that Paramount might insist on having the squl rated PG-13 talking about war cola’s pretty insane ideas for the second film McKay said this could be one of those instances where the sequel does go further than the first one regarding the storyline he offered one hint think of different kinds of Witchcraft in June 2014 it was reported that the sequel would have a 2016 release date in September 2014 worka announced that he would not be returning to direct the sequel stating I want to do something a little bit different now and not just do sequels I did write the script and I hope to be involved in it but yeah I won’t be directing it he said the first film was a learning curve for me working in the studio system and the script I wrote for the original was so different than the final movie we ended up taking a lot out and altering stuff that first time I tried taking what I learned and still delivered a sequel script that’s an R-rated action film shortly after rener stated that without Rola directing again he might be less likely to return for the sequel on August 7th 15 it was reported that Bruno avalin would make his feature film debut directing the sequel with Rola as a writer and executive producer despite the flurry of media reports from 2013 to 2015 as of March 2023 no sequel has ever been released and Bruno avalin has yet to direct a feature film Hansel and gredle witch Hunters movie review Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is not a good film it’s inconsistently acted and somehow both underwritten and overplotted but it has some good things going for it for one it’s not outrageously dumber than its revisionist folklore themed predecessors van helling Red Riding Hood or TVs once upon a time and it’s far more goofy violent it also boasts a nice Title Credit sequence and a Brisk running time but most importantly the long shelv pick is set to bow with little serious Bo competition ensuring suitable time for crumb gathering before it’s consigned to obscurity to his credit Hansel and gredle writer director Tommy wara never takes the pic’s premise the titular Grim siblings grow into Weiss cracking primitive machine gun packing bounty hunters thanks to that fateful spell in the gingerbread house too seriously yet while the film rarely provokes any strenuous eye rolling it also can’t drum up even the slightest interest in the fate of its character let alone suspense cursing with anacronismo coats and leather pants Jeremy rener and Gemma Arterton Star as The Sibling Slayers who have parlayed their childhood Fame into a thriving witch hunting business called upon to investigate disappearing children in a Woodland Village the two run a foul of the local sheriff Peter Stormare when they interrupt a Witch Hunt in progress the woman in question P vatala turns out to be a white witch with a thing for Hansel her pretense for skinny dipping makes Prince’s Lake minetonka line seem like the height of subtle seduction while gredle is stalked by a sort of medieval Fanboy Thomas man who tirelessly follows her exploits in newspapers meanwhile a particularly vindictive witch famp Jansen from the surrounding Forest redoubles her efforts to terrorize the town’s folk Rola introduces some moderately clever touches here and there the missing children posters strapped to Medieval milk bottles are worth a laugh and making Hansel a diabetic thanks to his childhood sugar trauma is a smart idea that the film unceremoniously abandons but these are few and far between a film with a concept this strange has no right to be so dully formulaic yet after 15 minutes the script has entirely exhausted its Sparks of real invention the action Is frequent and competently staged all the same a distressing feeling of sameness takes over Midway through and viewers may be surprised to find themselves yawning as yet another wi is ripped apart limb from limb sending yet another wave of viscous loosing toward the camera on that note the pick isn’t helped by renner’s Apparent disdain for the material his Hansel may be a bit of a jaded Ruffian but the weary groan he seems to keep stifling has nothing to do with the character as written Jansen is likewise unconvincing me meaning that Aron registers as the films standout fesp simply by being its most willing participant spunky bouncing up after numerous beatings of which she is far more likely to be the recipient than her sibling curiously and sparring semic cutely with man while visual effects and production design are solid Hansel and grus 3D work is surprisingly shoddy and distracting for reasons both creative the frequency of protrusive blades and flying debris and Technical a fuzzy gray Sheen that appears during the film’s numerous night scenes Germany’s Studio bburg Lot provides some attractively picturesque Village Grime other information about this film have you ever thought about what happened to little Hansel and gredle after they escaped that evil witch’s gingerbread house probably not but Norwegian writer director Tommy wola did and in his world the pair grew up to be Kick-Ass witch Hunters complete with leather pants and crossbows after a setup showing the young Hansel and gredle shoving the witch into the oven the film picks up 15 years later where the grown-up pair played by Jeremy rener and Gemma Aron has been summoned to a village in Germany to deal with the nasty witch Muriel fun Jansen who lurks in the dark Forest nearby the sheriff of the Town Peter Stormare is not happy with a two stealing his thunder so does his best to stop them and Lead his own Witch Hunt despite being set in Germany in the vague one 800s the characters speak with a strange mix of accents of course nothing in this world is realistic but a decision between sounding American English or German seems like it would be a small thing to fix thankfully some of the humor is great jokes are peppered with swearing making for a few funny and unexpected moments though one recurring joke about hansel’s diabetes feels like a very heavy-handed way of saying don’t eat can kids the action is also a lot gorier and brutal than you may expect with loads of fake blood as heads get smooshed and witches get smacked down but between 2D and 3D go with 2D as the 3D is cheesy consisting of arrows blood Etc flying towards your face which distracts rather than enhances the experience there are quite a few familiar visual moments we’ve seen many times one example a hazy point of view shot as gredle wakes up from passing out to find she’s being carried similar to a shot in Where the Wild Things Are and many others so the direction feels very paint by numbers the plot of Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is also very standard you know exactly how it is going to play out so are never worried how the pair will Faire during the climactic action scenes there’s also a setup at the end signaling a possible franchise which will depend on the box office takings of course but the 10 extra months it took this film to come to theaters doesn’t bode well for any future witch hunting for Hansel and gredle positive elements that last bit of introspection isn’t really in this movie Just so you know but there is at least one other positive worth mentioning Hansel and gredle routinely risk their lives to take down the worst of their lands evil Denis saving whatever children might need saving while they’re at it their Moxy inspires others to chip in two Mina a lovely villager who was nearly burned as a witch herself an ogre who previously served in the nefarious coven of a certain powerful witch named Muriel a youth who hopes to become a witch hunter himself one day while none of these characters are necessarily Paragons of virtue they do what in the movie’s troubled ethos must be done spoiler warning it’s important to note that Hansel and gred’s parents didn’t just desert their kids because they they wanted to go play the slots somewhere turns out their mother was a good witch who sensed that villagers were coming to kill her so she casts a spell to permanently protect her children from bad witch magic and sends them away for their own safety leaving herself at the mercy of the mob the concept of good witches is always problematic of course but we must still L mom for doing a supremely motherly thing here they died to save you Muriel snidle tells gredle and Hansel and when another white witch sacrifices herself to save Hansel Muriel declares her pathetic we naturally would beg to differ spiritual elements Hansel and gredle witch hunter is filthy with witches we’ve already established that but just what sorts of witches are they that’s a more ticklish question most of them are flat out bad so bad that we see them attempt to sacrifice children and and others under a blood red moon the most Unholy holiday these witches have seen for several years and we know that that first witch Hansel and gredle encountered love to eat kids someone refers to the witches as spawn of Satan we later learn of the existence of the so-called white witches they don’t look ugly they don’t use their magic for evil in fact we rarely see them use magic at all but we know that when they bless weapons those weapons are far more effective on run-of the-mill evil witches and while practicing white sorcery still involves spell books and such becoming a white witch is less a matter of choice and more a matter of heredity in Hansel and gretel’s World which explains why the evil witches are so keen on capturing the sibs Muriel hopes to make herself and her sisters invulnerable to Fire and thus nigh Invincible but to work this delicate piece of magic she needs the heart from a Great White Witch gredle is that witch even though gredle herself doesn’t realize it until Muriel is actively trying to remove her heart from her rib cage theologically then these witches are in a pickle sometimes they reflect a traditional Christian understanding of Witchcraft at others they seem to embody a more naturalist understanding of magic ever so slightly akin to Harry Potter and then you’ve got elements of either a yinyang or good vs evil Showdown a battle between inherently light and inherently dark creatures that doesn’t have much to do with witchcraft as typically understood at all a man about to be killed by a witch says please God no to which the witch responds even your God knows better than to come here a woman crosses herself before getting shot we see a cult looking texts and charts sexual content meadus robes and Wades naked into a pool of healing water and we see both her exposed breasts and backside she invites Hansel to join her which he does the two begin kissing in the pool before the camera turns its attention elsewhere the next time we see the lovers they’re getting dressed with Mina asking Hansel if he might visit her again should he be in the area then a young wannabe witch hunter cares for an unconscious gredle swabbing her face with a wet cloth his Focus shifts ever lower until he begins dabbing the swell of her breasts ministrations that are quickly terminated when Gretel revives violent content Muriel casts a spell on a Woodby tracker causing strange grub like things to crawl under his skin we see them skitter under his forehead he later walks into a Tavern delivers a message and then literally explodes showering blood and gore on everyone there Muriel captures another man via Forest tendrils which lasso his arms legs and head and literally pull him apart an ogre crushes one man’s head like a grape and Stomps another’s head into the ground like a pumpkin spraying blood everywhere and witches themselves apparently bleed just like everybody else Hansel and Mina blast a massive Sabbat full of witches with steampunk Weaponry some of the witches are obliterated by a hail of blessed bullets others are painfully skewered or hacked apart a few few flying away are sliced into Nugget sized bits of meat when they hit a web of lethal wire strung up between trees one is crushed by a falling Pine Hansel and gredle behead a witch with a shovel witch vs witch hunter battles are filled with flying fists and feet and whole bodies participants Dodge or sometimes don’t inexhaustible numbers of blades and arrows and bullets and magical flying projectiles and since in this movies ethos witches are always female most of this violence is perpetrated against and often by women a witch via magic forces a boy to shoot his own mother and a man to commit suicide with a shotgun a man struggles as he hangs from a noose his wife Burns in a p Beyond dogs attack and kill their masters Hansel is painfully dragged via broomstick through a forest winding up high in a tree he escapes by Falling hard to the ground Gretel head a sheriff making his nose spurt blood later she nearly bites the guy schnaz right off which generates even more gushing blood an ogre is revived through primitive shock therapy folks get stabbed children are threatened a witch is thrown into an oven and burned alive we see cartoon depictions of witch exterminations a witch is brutally interrogated involving punches to her face leaving her bloody a witch holds her her hand over and Open Flame until it begins to hurt her crude or profane language a half dozen fword and about the same number of his words a variety of milder profanities include a b CH DN and AG we hear one or two misuses of God’s name drug and alcohol content witch Hunters and others drink liquor Hansel regularly injects himself with medication to stay alive conclusion Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is a dumb kitchy sloppy salacious bit of film making there is no real character development there’s barely a plot this movie makes spongy boob Square pins look like a work by Tolstoy instead of a solid narrative then there’s lots and lots and lots of blood the flimsy flick wallows in it splashes through it practically drowns under the weight of it I can only Echo the senent surely voiced by the unhappy Village’s underpaid sanitation Specialists after one of many nearby battles what a mess what you need to know Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is an action horror movie after their father leaves them in the woods and doesn’t return Hansel and gredle encounter their first evil witch they kill her and then embark on a career of killing witches for hire cut to Hansel and gredle as adult they are being hired tied to find and return some children kidnapped by evil witches for nefarious purposes eventually they become the hunted themselves they also learn some secrets about their parents including their mother Hansel and gredle which Hunters is in part intended to be cute with some campy humor it’s not intended to be taken seriously also the heroes use the f word in a medieval setting they are modern tough Hansel and grle is rated R for foul language brief nudity and extreme bloody gruesome action violence worst perhaps this lowquality nasty movie comes with a very strong occult worldview where white witches battle evil witches there’s no such thing as a good witch however according to God therefore media wise movie aers will want to avoid this Hansel and grle content very strong occult worldview with some strong mixed or content about very evil black witches and some good white witches plus the two title characters who spoiler don’t know their mother was a white witch so they can be two including the use of physical weapons like guns primitive taser weapons and knives to fight defeat and kill evil black witches who kidnpped children to sacrifice them for an occult result but their plans for the children and other occult projects are defeated with some light moral elements about rescuing children and stopping evil one mention of God in one line even God knows better than to come here and some light Redemptive elements of sacrifice 16 obscenities including some fword no profanities and under a spell man eats worms then vomits them on people some very strong extreme R-rated violence and plenty of action violence includes fighting shooting stabbing beheading hanging burnings man under a spell blows his head off man head squashed by a large creature and lots of blood splattering on faces and clothing one sexual moment where woman dis robes and where a man and the woman kiss while naked in a lake upper female nudity when a woman disres and walks into Lake with back and breasts exposed witches use some sort of potion drugs and revenge dishonesty children kidnapped by evil forces more detail Hansel and gredle witch Hunters features two children who grow up killing witches and become medieval superheroes filled with occult content about very evil black witches and some good white witches foul language and excessive bloody violence the movie is not fit for viewing by Discerning audiences the movie opens with a father taking young Hansel and gredle into the woods he tells them to stay and that he’ll be back but he doesn’t return Hansel and gredle come across a candy house are lured inside and wind up fighting their first witch as the opening credits start to roll their childhood exploits as witch Hunters are extolled cut to Hansel and gredle as adults they are being hired to find and return some children kidnapped by evil witches for nefarious purposes eventually they become the hunted themselves they also learn some secrets about their parents including their mother the story in Hansel and gredle involves white and black witches the black witches certainly make witchcraft look horrible the white witches are shown to be heroic the problem is that witchcraft is presented with Hollywood CGI effects in such a way as to make them more like movie Monsters than real people thus the filmmakers seem to have their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks they treat their story in a campy way designed to provoke some laughs however witchcraft is a very real activity condemned by God it does involve curses spells and dionic activity even though the movie shows dark witchcraft to be despicable and revolting it comes across as just as unreal as zombies aliens and werewolves it’s not however also you can’t defeat evil sorcery and Witchcraft by white witchcraft the Bible says in Ephesians 6:12 our fight is not against people on Earth but against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s Darkness against the spiritual powers of evil in the Heavenly world real witchcraft involves the powers of this world’s Darkness combating Darkness involves prayer and faith not wooden Stakes or witch burnings spiritual warfare is just that spiritual the danger is that naive people completely blind to spiritual warfare will dabble in bad things they have no idea are bad therefore witchcraft isn’t something to dismiss as simple movie monster fodder of course Hansel and gredle witch Hunters is in part intended to be cute the heroes use the F in a medieval setting they are modern tough finally while the visuals and special effects are up to Hollywood’s gruesome standards for this sort of R-rated movie movie guide finds Hansel and gredle to be of low quality simply because it relies so heavily on nastiness to tell its Story 60 million worth of blood and gore is not quality Hansel and gredle is one movie media wise consumers will want to avoid even if they fit the age level intended by the R rating this
