‘I’ve got other trips planned that would take me through the UK or back to the UK, so I’ll stop in and see my family as much as I can.’ The Prince also said, ‘I love my family’ and expressed his gratitude for being able to visit the King last week after his diagnosis. When asked whether a family illness can have a ‘reunifying effect’, Prince Harry said that he was sure.

As far as any meeting with Prince William is concerned, it is understood that relations between the brothers remains frosty. After the announcement of the Princess of Wales’s cancer diagnosis, it was widely reported that the Sussexes had made contact ‘privately’. This news came along with a public statement from the Sussexes saying, ‘we wish health and healing for Kate and the family’.

During the service tomorrow, the Prince will give a reading, while Damien Lewis, the actor, will recite William Ernest Henley’s Invictus poem. Later this week, he will travel to Nigeria to meet with Meghan for a short tour of the country. The trip is associated with the Games after Nigeria sent its first team to the Invictus Games last year.

The Sussexes stepped back from working royal life in 2020, relocating to Montecito in California. Relations between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family have deteriorated since then – reaching a major low after the publication of Harry’s memoir Spare, in which he accused the Queen of sacrificing him on her ‘PR altar’ and detailed a range of other grievances, including an alleged physical attack by the Prince of Wales.

Nevertheless, royal experts will note the comments he made during the notorious Oprah interview of March 2021, in which Harry said, ‘I will always love [Charles]. There’s a lot of hurt that’s happened. I will continue to make it one of my priorities to heal that relationship.’
