Each month, we highlight local celebrities making headlines in Bergen and beyond. In this installment, we feature three Bergen comedians teaming up on “Saturday Night Live”, an Olympian in Ridgewood and the latest on former Record columnist and NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

    Eddie Murphy, Tracy Morgan and Chris Rock

    Eddie Murphy [featured in February 2009] was in New York City to celebrate 50 years of “Saturday Night Live”. The former Englewood resident appeared in two sketches, including Black Jeopardy, where he portrayed and co-starred with another comedian with Bergen ties, Alpine’s Tracy Morgan [featured in December 2017]. Alpine’s Chris Rock [featured April 2007] also appeared in the sketch.

    88-Keys

    Grammy Award-winning producer 88-Keys (right) stopped by EZ2COLLECT [featured in August 2020] in Elmwood Park to pick up some vinyl. “He loves the store and found many records he was looking for,” says EZ2COLLECT owner Irv Lukin.

    Adrian Wojnarowski

    Former Record columnist and NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski [Glen Rock, featured in August 2010] auctioned off four iPhones used to share his infamous “Woj Bombs” with the world. The auctions raised $12,700 for the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball program, where the Glen Rock resident is now the general manager.

    Melissa Fumero

    Lyndhurst native and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Melissa Fumero [featured in January 2015] is back on the small screen in Grosse Pointe Garden Society. The show follows four members of a local garden club who get involved in a murder and must bury the body in their own garden. New episodes air Sundays on NBC and can be streamed on Peacock.

    Tyson Etienne

    Former Dwight-Englewood star Tyson Etienne signed a two-way deal with the Brooklyn Nets. The guard was averaging 16.9 points, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game for the Long Island Nets in the G League before signing the new deal.

    Two-Man Giant Squid

    Two-Man Giant Squid — fronted by Montvale’s Mitchell Vinokur — released their self-titled album on Mint 400 Records [featured in August 2024]. The post-punk act have shows lined up in Brooklyn in April and June.

    Jordan Chiles

    Two-time Olympian Jordan Chiles was at Bookends in Ridgewood, signing copies of her memoir I’m That Girl: Living the Power of My Dreams.
