Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan, 34, joined her husband, the Dragon King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, 45, to welcome the King and Queen of Thailand on a state visit to the country known as ‘the Land of the Thunder Dragon’. The Thai royals – who are said to be the richest monarchs in the world, with a net worth of anywhere between $30 billion and $70 billion – were invited to Bhutan for a four-day tour, beginning on 25 April.
Vajiralongkorn, known as Rama X, has been the King of Thailand since 2016, with this trip marking his first state visit since acceding to the throne. The 72-year-old made quite an entrance. As a qualified military pilot, he flew the aircraft that carried him into Bhutan, landing at the airport with his wife, Queen Suthida, as co-pilot.
