The Princess of Wales is known for her flawless hair at every public appearance, and her signature bouncy blow-dry is surprisingly achievable for anyone.
Last month, Catherine, 43, who is patron of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), showed off her healthy tresses as she stepped out alongside Prince William on the final day of the Six Nations at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
For the occasion, she opted for a double-breasted coat in timeless navy, with shiny gold buttons on the cuffs and front. Kate teamed the coat with black suede knee-high leather boots and a co-ordinated black leather clutch bag. But, as usual, it was her hair that stole the show as her loose curls flowed down past her shoulders.
Kate never has a hair out of place
But how does she keep it looking so healthy? Award-winning hairstylist Michael Gray recently shared insights into maintaining healthy, voluminous hair like Princess Kate’s.
Speaking to Hello!, he emphasised that regular trims every eight weeks are essential – even for those growing their hair out. Removing the ends helps preserve strength and prevent breakage, allowing hair to grow long while staying healthy.
Gray noted that women’s hair can undergo changes over time, especially around their 40s, making consistent maintenance even more important. He also recommended incorporating stimulating hair products into your routine, believing these to be a key part of Kate’s regimen.
He pointed to the Nioxin Hair Thickening System 1 Shampoo, which helps cleanse the scalp and remove excess oil, promoting a healthier environment for hair growth. The shampoo is currently available for £23.50 on LookFantastic. For added density and scalp health, Gray suggests the Living Proof Scalp Care Density Serum, priced at £54.
Alongside topical treatments, Gray recommends using supplements like Perfectil to support hair strength and growth from within.
Hairstylist Tom Pike also commented on Kate’s recent style evolution, noting her shift to a more glamorous ‘Hollywood wave’. To achieve this look, he advises starting with a smoothing cream or blow-dry spray before drying the hair straight. Afterward, use a large barrel curling wand to twist sections of hair, then gently brush them out to create soft, elegant waves.

Award-winning hairstylist Gray estimated that the Princess of Wales’s hair measures around 20 inches in length – a result of diligent hair care and a key strategy for preventing split ends.
Gray explained that as hair grows longer, it naturally becomes more prone to splitting. However, Kate maintains her famously immaculate locks by scheduling regular trims. This helps keep her hair “lovely, long, and healthy,” even at considerable length.
Fellow stylist t Adem Oygur of Adem London told Fabulous that Kate is unlikely to stray from her signature look of long, flowing hair. “Kate will likely be long for life,” he said. “She’s always worn her hair this way – even before marrying Prince William. It’s become a staple of her style.”
He emphasised that her long layers not only suit her well but also contribute to a youthful appearance, framing her face in a flattering and timeless way. While shorter cuts like bobs and pixies may come and go with trends, long, healthy hair remains a classic – and for Kate, it’s part of her royal identity.
With a few professional tips and the right products, replicating the Princess of Wales’s polished hairstyle is well within reach.
