Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship may not have been as close as the public perceived, according to a royal expert. Following Prince Harry’s comments about hoping for a “reconciliation” with his family, including an indirect reference to his brother.
Prince Harry had stated: “Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things. But you know, I would love reconciliation with my family. I’ve always, there’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
He continued: “And I said, life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has he, he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”
Royal historian Dr Tessa Dunlop shared her insights on SkyNews. She noted Prince Harry’s words conveyed a deep sadness, but suggested the public’s perception of this sadness may be influenced by the image of a united Royal Family that has been presented over the years.
She argued the reality of Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship was never as close as it seemed, despite their appearances together at various events and ceremonies, reports the Mirror.

“And what Harry’s done here is he’s laid it bare. So I wonder if that feels as dire for them on a personal level because what Harry is saying is they were never actually the buddies that we were led to believe they were.”
The author also drew attention to the contradiction in Prince Harry’s actions, given his professed desire for family reconciliation. She stated: “On the one hand he says he wants reconciliation and he doesn’t know how long his father’s got to live… but nonetheless pressing on painful buttons and deeply personal ones at the same time as really detonating yet another bomb, basically placing at the feet of his father the blame for him not getting the level of security protection he desires.
“He’s inferring really that the King is playing this unconstitutional role of meddling… They are His Majesty’s courts but saying stuff like that… Harry knows that isn’t going to win him friends within the palace and it’s not going to bring his father any nearer to him, so there’s a curious contradiction there.”
Following their departure from royal duties, the Sussexes have consistently made public critiques against The Firm, exposing private details about Harry’s family. Their continued explosive revelations have largely alienated them from the Royal household—Prince William, in particular, is reported to be deeply upset by his brother’s apparent ‘betrayal’.
The rift between Princes William and Harry has reportedly widened further following the publication of Harry’s revealing memoir, considered by some to be the final breaking point. Sources close to the Prince and Princess of Wales told The Daily Beast: “Both sides understand each other’s position clearly now. William and Catherine felt completely betrayed by Harry’s memoir. They don’t speak to Harry and Meghan.”
