Elizabeth Smart Kidnapper Wanda Barzee Arrested for Violating Sex Offender Terms

    One of Elizabeth Smart’s kidnappers is facing legal trouble once again. Over 20 years after Wanda Barsy abducted Elizabeth Smart in 2002 and held her captive for 9 months, the 79year-old has now been arrested for violating her terms as a sex offender. According to online booking records viewed by E! news. Barsy was taken into custody May 1st in Utah for visiting at least two parks, which she is barred from doing as a registered sex offender. Brent Weissberg, a spokesperson for the Salt Lake City Police, tells NBC News that Barzie had allegedly visited Liberty Park and Sugar House Park last month. According to the Utah State Legislature, registered sex offenders cannot be in public parks, which are considered a quote protected area. E-News can confirm that Barzie was then released from police custody May 2nd on a court order. Barzie had previously pleaded guilty to kidnapping an unwarranted transportation of a minor in 2009 for the kidnapping of a then 14-year-old Elizabeth and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. However, she was later released in 2018. Her husband, Brian David Mitchell, who Elizabeth testified in 2009, raped her daily amid her captivity, is currently serving a life sentence for interstate kidnapping and unlawful transportation of a minor.     Wanda Barzee, who helped kidnap Elizabeth Smart 2002, was arrested in Utah for visiting at least two parks, authorities said, which violated her sex offender conditions.
