The Princess of Wales has been embracing her country-casuals in recent weeks: wearing tweed jackets, skinny jeans and a divisive baker boy hat during visits to the Lake District and the Isle of Mull. For the 80th anniversary of VE Day today, though, Kate returned to the mode of royal dressing that we’ve seen her adopt so frequently over the years.
In fact, the Princess opted to rewear a plum coat dress by Emilia Wickstead for the occasion, teamed with a matching hat by Sean Barrett, matching jewellery and an RAF brooch. No stranger to repeating her favourite wardrobe staples, the royal previously wore the same look during a state visit by South African president Cyril Ramaphosa back in 2022.

Kate was joined by her husband, Prince William, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to watch today’s military procession, before greeting crowds from the Buckingham Palace balcony. Later, the royals – including the King and Queen – hosted a tea party at the Palace for veterans and members of the wartime generation.
It’s been a turbulent few days for the royals, with Prince Harry laying bare the extent of the rift between himself and the royal family during a candid BBC interview on Friday, in which he revealed that he and the King aren’t currently on speaking terms. “I would love reconciliation with my family,” he said. “There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious.”
