How Met Gala 2025 Made History Hours Before Event | E! News

The 2025 Met Gala has made history before it’s even begun. Officials for the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute announced May 5th that they’ve raised a record-breaking $31 million this year. The figure marks the largest amount the gala has ever raised since it began in 1948. And while the night is mainly focused on which celebs are best dressed, the reason behind Hollywood’s biggest and brightest gathering on the Met steps is to bring in funds for the institute that documents and showcases the history of fashion. Last year’s Met Gala rad in a record-breaking $26 million. However, it’s a night where no expense is spared with the New York Times reporting that the flashy event cost more than $6 million with 1.3 million being spent on entertainment alone as Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Orivo took the stage to perform. This year’s theme entitled Super Fine Tailoring Black Style will be examining 300 years of black fashion and the vibrant history of black dandism. And ENews has you covered so you won’t miss a single moment from fashion’s biggest night. Tune in to the Live from Echala 2025 show on TV starting at 6:00 p.m. Eastern. [Music]
