It seems the future king was very impressed with the VE Day commemorationsPrince William and Prince George watch the flypast from Buckingham Palace balcony after attending the armed forces procession on May 5, 2025

The sweet nickname Prince George uses for his father Prince William has been made public after he apparently used it during VE Commemorations over the weekend.

Earlier this month, the nation came together to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2 in Europe.

As part of these commemorations, thousands gathered in front of Buckingham Palace to observe the Royal Family and a multi-aircraft flypast overhead.

The flypast included aircraft both from wars past and, potentially, wars future, with the likes of the Eurofighter Typhoon taking part in the display alongside the famous Red Arrows display team.

Among those on the palace balcony were key members of the Royals, making their first collective appearance since the heartfelt sit-down with Prince Harry aired on BBC. Future monarchs Prince William and Prince George stood by Princess Kate, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Speaking to ReachPlc, Jeremy Freeman said he had been able to work out what George had said to William when he had nudged him during the ceremony as they stood next to Queen Camilla.

According to Mr. Freeman, Prince George remarked to his dad: “Papa, what a sound.”, reports Edinburgh Live.

It’s thought Prince William’s response to his nearest and dearest was to suggest they “wave” down to the spectators.

The familial dynamic between George and William was not a new spectacle during the VE Day commemorations. Earlier in the day, the duo had attended a tea party for veterans.

It was at this event that William discussed George’s interest in veterans and their welfare, as reported by LBC.

Discussing the matter with Hello!, Royal commentator Emily Nash noted that this visit marked a significant moment for the 11-year-old in his ongoing training to become a future monarch.

She stated: “It was a lovely surprise to see Prince George joining the King and Queen and his parents for the veterans tea party at the Palace. It’s a big moment for him as second-in-line to the throne and one he will remember for many years to come.

“Both William and Catherine have spoken about their desire to teach their children about major moments in history, such the Holocaust, so this is another way for them to connect that wartime generation with their own next generation.”

Outside of official duties, William and George have been seen enjoying quality time in more casual settings like Aston Villa football matches, including their team’s recent trip to play PSG in the Champions League.

Speaking about their attendance at the match, William expressed how crucial it was for him that they got to experience the game together.

He expressed: “You know what, it’s been 43 years since anything like this has happened in my generation as a Villa fan, and I want George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition.

“I hope it’s not 43 years until the next one happens, but I think those memories are really important to create and bringing him along tonight is a big deal for me.”
