Everyone who is raising young kids knows that the hour (or couple of hours) after you get them to bed, and before you go to bed yourself, those hours are sacred.
That is when we finally belong to ourselves again, when there is no one complaining about being hungry or needing their bum wiped when they have done a number two.
Evenings as a parent of young children mean a small chance to recharge our batteries a little, whether we sit down for a dinner with our other half, or just collapse on the sofa and watch Netflix.

But if you are Meghan Markle, you also take time every evening to email your children a love note of what you did together that day, or just to remind them how you feel about them.
In a recent interview, the mum-of-two revealed she sends emails to her children Archie, five, and Lilibet, three, ‘almost every night’.
The former actress, 43, said the idea came from one of her mum friends, and that each message contains ‘random pictures’ and snippets of their life on the given day – a photo of them at breakfast or details of something funny they did.
Meghan says she uses the email addresses as a ‘virtual scrapbook’ for the children to look at in the future.
Speaking on The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, she said:
‘At some point in their life, I’ll say “Here’s an email that I’ve been keeping for you your whole life. Here’s everything and every moment where I wanted to tell you how much I love you and how proud I am of you.’
She added:
‘For them to be able to look back and go, “Oh my gosh, she has loved us so much!” That’s, I think, the best part about being a mom. It’s not about the grandeur of a gesture, it’s about “I see you.”‘
However, sweet as her idea might be, many parents felt emailing your kids every night seems a little excessive.
‘Who has time to do this in the real world!’ one person commented.
Someone pointed out that the idea is nothing new, and that the trend of virtual scrapbooking, and in particular saving images by emailing them, has been around since the inception of email.
‘This has been a thing for a long time’, another person wrote.
The podcast interview and Meghan’s digital scrapbook idea came after the former royal shared sweet pictures of Archie and Lili picking flowers with her on Instagram. Three-year-old Lilibet could be seen with her hair down and wearing a pink top, while her brother, who will turn six soon, wore a navy blue, long-sleeved shirt.
The proud mum has also recently shared images of herself cooking with the kids, and it seems both Archie and Lili have inherited their mother’s love of cooking or baking up a storm in the kitchen.

Social media followers have also noticed that both Archie and Lili have the same fiery red hair as their father, Prince Harry, and seem to have developed strong American accents since the family relocated to the United States in 2020.
