Angela Bassett and Burberry did the thing. #MetGala

[Music] Hi, I’m Angela Bassid and you’re watching Med Gala by Design with Eve. It’s my first Met Gala. So, I’m excited. I really wanted this moment to show something different that we’ve not done on the carpet and this is a look that we had her done. Like you said, the color blue is not usually the one that she gravitates towards. So, when it happened, I was like, “Oh, okay. That was a surprise.” I really wanted this look to reflect those things that we’ve never done before. The reference to the look is really from the LAP in the Congo, which is a society of men and women who dress up. That’s the thing is French slang for to dress. I really wanted to lean into the dandy portion of that to show exactly what the movement is that they’re doing there and the culture and how deep and rich it is. British fashion is really synonymous with great tailoring. Fabrics actually were born out of our last fashion show which was really honoring kind of great British interiors and stately homes. The thing about being a dandy is not just the clothes but it’s the lifestyle, your aura and the way you enter a room. is about uh a fearless creativity, an invitation to be seen. And in their presentation, they invite you to be fearless as well. The fact that the Met is taking this moment to highlight our cultures contributions to not only fashion, but to pop culture as a culture, period, makes me really proud. And to be standing next to someone who is an absolute icon to us, this to me is a representation of black deadism at its highest form. For me, when you employ excellence and focus and attention and exuberance, you’re being your superified unique self. Thanks for watching, E, and see you at the Met Gala.

    1. Such a beautiful color on Ms. Basset. Iโ€™d definitely also want a more classically styled jacket made to go with those pieces, and some sort of skirt or dress in a similar solid colour to wear under that jacket cape. All in all the ensemble is very elegant. It might have been more impactful had it incorporated some African fabric as the vest or sleeves to more fit the theme.
