His reference to forgiveness is thought to be in response to Harry’s expressed desire for reconciliation with his royal relatives, which he admitted during the interview might be difficult. ‘Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book,’ he said. ‘Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things.’ The royal sat down for an explosive discussion with the broadcaster after losing an appeal over the level of security he and his family are entitled to while in the UK.

After the court ruling, the Duke of Sussex said: ‘I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point. There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family,’ he continued, adding that he had now ‘forgiven’ them. ‘I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious,’ he said, while maintaining that the dispute over his security had ‘always been the sticking point’.
Saying that he felt ‘let down’ by his family and the UK, he described his court defeat as ‘a good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up’ and blamed the Royal Household and his father for influencing the decision to reduce his security. He claimed that King Charles ‘won’t speak to me because of this security stuff’ and expressed his ‘surprise’ at the ruling: ‘Whether you’re the government, the Royal Household, whether you’re my dad, my family – despite all of our differences, do you not want to just ensure our safety?’
