According to a top Royal expert, the Prince and Princess of Wales are presenting a “totally united front” in response to their treatment by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex following their explosive interview with US TV host Oprah Winfrey in April 2021.
The intimate chat with the American television personality saw the couple level several accusations at the Royal Family – from Meghan alleging that Kate made her cry in the days leading up to her wedding, to supposed discussions about how dark baby Archie’s skin might be prior to his birth.
In the wake of the interview, which quickly made headlines worldwide, Buckingham Palace felt compelled to respond, despite the Royal Family’s traditional ‘Never complain, Never explain’ stance.

The Palace issued a statement expressing sadness over Meghan and Harry’s struggles, but also noted that “recollections may vary” regarding the issues and concerns brought up in their interview.

This phrase quickly became a memorable quote, and it was later revealed who reportedly spearheaded this firm three-word response.
In an updated version of Valentine Low’s book, Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, it is suggested that the Princess of Wales had a significant hand in crafting the memorable line. A leading commentator commended Kate and William for their strong handling of the situation.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams remarked to Express.co.uk: “Whether or not she was responsible for the unerring riposte to Harry and Meghan’s subversive appearance on Oprah, ‘some recollections may vary’, as has been reported, there is little doubt that she and William have a totally united front against the way both he personally and the Royal Family in particular, were betrayed by the Sussexes.
“She and William complement each other so wonderfully well. This is clear from their body language, their delight in sporting rivalries in public which gives them an opportunity to show off their sense of fun, and the way they so clearly relate to the charities they have chosen. Their patronage gives them a unique cachet.”
It was back in January 2020 when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their decision to step down from their roles as working royals.
The couple, who tied the knot in St George’s Chapel, Windsor on May 19, 2018, are now parents to two children – five year old Prince Archie and three year old Princess Lilibet.
Since venturing out on their own and forging a new path independent of the Royal Family, Harry and Meghan put out a tell-all documentary on Netflix, shedding light on their Royal life experiences, with Meghan sharing her perspective as a newcomer to the illustrious family.
Adding to the onslaught of revelations, Prince Harry dropped his explosive memoir, ‘Spare’, in January 2023, where he divulged his views on his brother, Prince William, and his stepmother, Queen Camilla, especially in the wake of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales’s death.
