Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will celebrate a big milestone – but Jennie Bond believes it’s unlikely that there will be any messages of congratulations sent from the UK
Prince Harry took part in a bombshell interview with the BBC earlier this month
From legal battles and charity scandals to the launch of lifestyle brands and explosive interviews, 2025 has indeed been a whirlwind for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. However, amidst the year’s tumult, the couple can look forward to a bright spot this week as they celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary on May 19.
A lot has transpired since their 2018 nuptials at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, which was witnessed by millions worldwide. The pair have not only relocated from the UK to California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but Harry has also had a dramatic falling out with his Royal kin following his contentious interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Netflix docuseries, and his memoir, Spare.
Earlier this month, Harry sent shockwaves globally with yet another explosive interview. In it, he alleged that the King refuses to communicate with him and expressed uncertainty about “how much longer my father has” while expressing hopes for a “reconciliation” with his family.

This BBC television interview followed his recent loss in the latest round of his court battle over his security arrangements in the UK.

In the aftermath, Meghan shared a black-and-white snapshot of her husband and children in their California home’s garden. As Harry and Meghan gear up to commemorate seven years of matrimony, former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes the photo is quite revealing.
She shared with the Mirror: “I think the recent post of Harry walking into the distance with his two children suggested that he’s walking away from his old life once and for all. And I very much doubt that there will be anniversary wishes winging their way from the UK to California.”
The Sussexes’ relationship has been a hot topic in recent months, particularly as they embark on distinctly different career ventures. Meghan premiered her lifestyle and cookery show, With Love, Meghan, on Netflix in March, launched her hit lifestyle brand, As Ever, and is currently producing her new podcast series, Confessions of a Female Founder.
On the other hand, Harry has dedicated himself to philanthropy and played a prominent role in the Invictus Games, which took place in Vancouver this past February. Amidst the rumors and family tensions, Jennie posits that the couple may have grown stronger through isolation.

She continued: “I think that after all they have been through – however it all came about and whoever you might think is at fault – it has probably made them stronger as a couple.
“They have certainly isolated themselves from their respective families so, having burned so many bridges, they must rely ever more heavily on one another. That is quite a weight of responsibility to bear, but I’m sure they both feel that it makes it even more imperative to work hard at their marriage and make it a success.
“I don’t suppose they waste many hours on discussing the feud with their respective families. The crises come and go – but they have their love, their children, their fabulous home, the freedom they craved, and Meghan’s burgeoning portfolio of new projects to keep them busy.
“It also seems quite extraordinary that it’s only seven years since Meghan walked up that aisle and took her place in the Royal family. It was a day filled with love and hope and she seemed to represent exactly what a modern monarchy needed. So much has happened since that day – and most of it makes very depressing reading.
“However, it seems to me that one thing has remained unchanged – and that is the love they apparently felt for one another almost from the moment they met.”
