Fans were less than impressed with the reveal of Kate Middleton’s Madame Tussauds waxwork, which had a huge makeover and new dress added along with the rest of the royal familyMadame Tussauds Kate MiddletonKate Middleton’s Madame Tussauds waxwork has been called ‘terrifying’ by fans(Image: Getty Images)

Madame Tussauds has unveiled a new waxwork figure of Kate Middleton which includes a touching tribute to the late Princess Diana, but fans aren’t impressed.

The Princess of Wales, 43, has received the full Madame Tussauds treatment, dressed from tiara to toe in the outfit she wore to a diplomatic reception alongside the rest of the royal family in 2023. It comes after William, the Prince of Wales and the Princess celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary last April.

The newly unveiled figure features the Princess dressed in a dusky pink Jenny Packham gown and silver pumps in the style of Gianvito Rossi ‘Rania 105, with the Royal Family Order of QEII replica Greville Diamond Chandelier earrings. She also wears the Royal Victorian Order blue sash.

Some eagle-eyed fans may notice that the figure has been topped with an exact replica of the signature Lover’s Knot Tiara – first created for Queen Mary in 1914.

The tiara, from the Madame Tussauds London archives, was later worn by the figure of Princess Diana in the 1980s, and pays a touching nod to the former Princess of Wales. Diana received the tiara as a wedding gift from her late Majesty in 1981 and wore it for the first time at the state opening of Parliament that November.

She then wore it most notably again in 1985 on an official visit to Washington with Prince Charles.

It has a strong French influence, made in a new-classical design on 19 open-work diamond arches – and enclosing an oriental pearl drop from a diamond lover’s knot bow, surrounded by single diamonds and upright oval pearl spikes.

Following Princess Diana’s death, it was passed down to Kate, and is now perhaps her most beloved royal jewellery.

Steve Blackburn, Senior General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, said: “We are delighted that a new figure of the much-loved Catherine, Princess of Wales, has officially landed in The Royal Palace Experience.

“Kate, majestically crafted by our talented studio team, has been sculpted to ensure her resemblance is fit for a future Queen, alongside her dashing husband.” Catherine’s restyling comes alongside an outfit change for her husband, Prince William’s figure. Dressed, alongside the rest of the royal family – including King Charles II, Queen Camilla, and the late Queen Elizabeth II – the Prince of Wales is styled in a dapper black Ede & Ravenscroft tuxedo with a white bow-tie.

The suit is complete with replicas of his sash and star of the Order of the Garter and army medals. This figure will be on display at the Baker Street attraction from the 21st of May, in the Royal Palace Experience, where guests will have the opportunity to ‘meet’ the Princess of Wales’ new figure and other members of the Royal Family.

However, fans were quick to share their disappointed thoughts online. One X user wrote: “No offence, but they’re honestly terrifying. No idea why they keep making them if wax clearly isn’t their thing.

“William’s head looks like an airport runway, smooth, shiny, and ready for landing.”

Another added: “Looks nothing like her. The eyes are all wrong.” A third simply asked: “Okay but why does Camilla look 40 years younger?”
