A White House official exclusively tells E!News news that the pardons will be signed in the next 24 hours and that criminal justice reform advocate and former federal prisoner Alice Johnson, who was granted clemency by Trump in 2018, played a pivotal role in the decision. She was named to his administration as the quote pardon zar in February 2025. The couple’s daughter, Savannah, has been vocal about her parents’ legal fight and has met with President Trump several times. The White House official exclusively tells ENews that Trump has yet to meet Todd and Julie. Special assistant to the president and principal deputy press secretary Harrison Fields also tells E-News in a statement, “The president is always pleased to give well-deserving Americans a second chance, especially those who have been unfairly targeted and overly prosecuted by an unjust justice system.” President Trump called Savannah and her brother from the Oval Office to personally inform them that he would be pardoning their parents. He pardons them despite their heavy fraud convictions for borrowing $30,000,000 spending $20,000,000 and then declaring bankruptcy. They stole $20,000,000 but Trump pardons them. That is a travesty considering how many people are in prison on Marijuana charges which is being legalized around the country.
