It’s official; David Beckham is to be awarded a knighthood in King Charles’s Birthday Honours list. BBC Sport has confirmed the news, revealing he will be among the recipients to be published next week. A knighthood has long been rumoured to be in the works for David, who has been close to a number of royal family members over the years.

In December 2024, David Beckham attended a grand state banquet held in honour of the Emir of Qatar and his wife. Princess Anne, Prince William, the Duchess of Edinburgh, King Charles and Queen Camilla were among the 150 guests, as were Sir Keir Starmer and his wife, Victoria, along with other politicians including Kemi Badenoch and Rory Stewart.

Beckham arrived at the Palace in slick white tie with his wife, Victoria (who donned a long, black dress, no doubt from her own fashion line) at his side. Although David has attended several royal events in previous years, this was his first invitation to a state banquet, which denoted the highest level of welcome and friendship the country can offer.
