As the rift between the royal pair continues to deepen, a suggestion has been made that Harry’s children Archie and Lilibet will not be able to keep their royal titles

Prince William is reportedly set to strip Prince Harry of his titles when he is King.

Harry and William are currently in the midst of a “ceasefire” after a rift behind the scenes of the Royal Family. The fallout began when Harry and wife Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020, with Meghan’s treatment from the Royal Family a major reason for the move.

Since then, the brotherly duo have barely been on speaking terms, and insiders have speculated that there is little love to be lost between the siblings. Now, a suggestions has been made that William could up the ante by removing Harry’s ability to use his royal titles.

In a report by The Guardian, the paper said that Harry is hoping that he and his family can continue to use the titles. The explanation for the rationale was “so that when they grow older they can decide for themselves whether they want to become working royals, or stay out of public life.”

The stipulation appeared to go unnoticed until picked up by the Daily Mail earlier this week, before it was more widely publicised. According to the Daily Beast, sources close to the Royal Family had mixed reactions to the potential news.

Speaking to the outlet, one pal of the future King penned: “William obviously isn’t going to hire Archie and Lilibet; this is just trolling on the part of Harry and Meghan. It’s actually hilarious that no one even noticed it for ten days, until the Mail did it.”

The insider went to describe the situation as “beyond parody”, with the source adding that it was Queen Elizabeth II who told Harry and Meghan to stop using their royal titles – to which they agreed. “Obviously, any reasonable person would understand that would mean your kids don’t use them either,” they added.

However, a second source – reportedly close with both brothers – said that the title actually holds no real rank, but is instead a “courtesy” of addressing a royal member. They added that the titles can only be gifted by royal decree – and they can easily be taken away, referring to the cases of Diana and Fergie.

“They have asked the Sussexes politely to stop using the style, to no avail, so I imagine William will simply issue new letters patent to formally remove the entire family’s right to use HRH when he becomes king,” the second insider explained. “It will likely be presented as part of a wider tidying up exercise to reduce, more broadly, the number of HRHs in circulation.”

Back in 2020, Harry and Meghan agreed with the late Queen that they would stop using their titles as part of their agreement to step back from royal duties. However, since then, Harry’s side has urged that he and his family still have a right to us the titles, so long as it would not be for commercial use.
