a tragedy is unfolding after a hot air balloon crashes in Brazil according to NBC News citing firefighters the hot air balloon caught fire and tumbled from the sky on June 21st in Brazil’s southern state of Santa Catarina killing eight people footage shared by local news outlet G1 showed billowing smoke coming from the balloon in flames as it hurdled toward the ground and in a video posted to social media two people can be seen falling through the air as the fire spread on board santa Catarina’s military fire brigade says per NBC News 13 people survived and were taken to hospitals adding that 21 people total were on board including the pilot the head police officer of Pria Grande municipality tells Brazilian newspaper Fola de Sa Paulo translated from Portuguese for NBC News “According to the pilot who is one of the survivors a flame started inside the basket and then he began to lower the balloon when the balloon was very close to the ground he ordered people to jump out of the basket he adds “Some were unable to jump the fire grew and the balloon ended up falling.” Governor Georgino Melo says in a video on X “We are in mourning a tragedy has happened we will see how it unfolds what happened why it happened but the important thing now is for the state structure to do what it can.” Melo says he has asked authorities to head to the location to do as much as possible to rescue to help to take to hospital to comfort the families [Music]

Actually there’s a hot air balloon incident in brazil for today because hot air balloon got catches fire and then there’s several injured and 8 people dead from the hot air balloon. Btw hot air balloon got dropped from the sky

Balloons should require all persons to wear parachutes. Or just ban them.

Definitely an overload if it's 21 people, also do they check peoples weight and stuff beforehand, cause a fat person for instance would be heavier then a skinny person
how did anyone survive this? Impossible. the basket was fully engulfed and it dropped hundreds of feet.

Set fire can spread to the basket. Why don’t they carry some safety things on with the ride like a fire extinguisher. I don’t know. Maybe everyone should put on a parachute and have a class on how to use it just in case you need to jump out. Maybe a step ladder so they can step onto it to jump out if needed. Why aren’t these hot air balloons rides a little more safer?
I’m literally at a hot air balloon festival right now in Vermont. This is so sad and scary. I always thought they were safe. I have short videos posted if you want to check them out.

But that's not correct. It was very high when it crushed, not close to the ground. How did anyone survive??

The balloon was carrying 21 people. The problem started when one of the cylinders caught fire and the fire extinguisher didn't work, which caused the fire to spread to the second gas cylinder. The people who were saved were because at one point the balloon crashed into the ground (in a rice field). The people who were standing up with the swing of the basket managed to get out of the basket, but the people who lowered themselves into the basket due to the extreme heat of the fire didn't have time to jump out of the basket. Some people jumped in mid-flight for fear of burning to death and didn't survive. My friend was in another balloon and saw everything. Thank you for your prayers!
