Robert Irwin has praised Prince William’s conservation work during an event showcasing Earthshot Prize finalists and winners.
Irwin, 21, said the royal is “creating an amazing legacy” for his children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven.
“Prince William is certainly creating an amazing legacy for his kids and for an entire generation to take inspiration from,” Irwin said, as per Hello!

“And I have no doubt that they’ll carry on that mission. And it is wonderful,” he added.
Later in the day, Irwin appeared on UK radio station Radio 2 to discuss the Earthshot Prize further – and it was there he he received a surprise voice note from the heir to the throne played by the radio host, Scott Mills.
“Good morning, Scott, or should I say G’day, Scott?” the prince said.
“I know you’ve got the fantastic Robert Irwin on the show this morning, a brilliant ambassador for the Earthshot Prize.

“Sorry, I can’t be with you both this morning, hoping to catch up with you soon.”
He then warned Mills, “Just beware, Scott. Robert likes to pull random terrifying animals and creatures out of his pockets while he’s on anyone’s show and talking to them.
“So just watch your back at all times that a tarantula or something doesn’t suddenly pop onto your desk.”

“The Earthshot Prize is a beacon of hope for all of us who care about the environment and about our ability to ensure a livable future for ourselves and future generation,” he said in a statement at the time.
“Healthy oceans, ecosystems, and species equal a healthy planet, and The Earthshot Prize recognises the importance of investing in and helping grow solutions that protect these critical resources,” Irwin continued.
“I’m honoured to join Nomzamo as the first Earthshot Global Ambassadors to help place a brighter spotlight on the inspiring changemakers saving the planet.”
Irwin described Prince William as “such an amazing person to work with” during an interview with Us Weekly.
He added that there is “such an incredible synergy between what he does, who he is and who we are”.

“It’s all about conservation. It’s wonderful that someone is so influential – that has such a fantastic platform – is using that to really better our environment,” Irwin continued.
He also said Prince William is a “true environmental hero”. Irwin said working alongside the royal has been “a great privilege”, adding that they’ve “definitely compared a lot of notes in the conservation space”.

Robert Irwin has continued his own father Steve Irwin’s legacy as a conservationist and animal activist.
Steve Irwin died at the age of 44 after being stung by a stingray during one of his filming projects when Robert Irwin was only two.
Since his death Robert, mum Terri and sister Bindi have continued Steve Irwin’s work at the family business, Australia Zoo in Queensland, and around the world.
The next Earthshot Prize Awards will be handed out in November in Rio de Janeiro at the Museum of Tomorrow.
This is the first time the event will be held in South America, taking place before the COP30 climate summit.

Prince William launched the Earthshot Prize in 2020, inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s “Moonshot” challenge to land a man on the moon.
The inaugural Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony was held in London in 2021. In 2024, the ceremony took place in Cape Town, South Africa.
