Prince William’s feelings toward Prince Harry have reportedly taken an unexpected turn, according to a new report. The siblings have been estranged since Harry left royal life behind, moving to the United States with his wife, Meghan Markle, in 2020. However, after five years of strained relations, could the royal brothers finally be approaching a turning point in their fractured relationship?
The Times of London reports that those closest to William have noticed a “shift” in his attitude toward his younger brother. Royal editor Roya Nikkhah reports that someone close to the Prince of Wales shared his “anger” toward Harry has now turned to “indifference.”
“Those closest to William have noticed a marked, recent shift. Where he once raged at his brother’s outbursts — after the publication of [Harry’s memoir] Spare, a friend told me though he was determined not to publicly respond even though ‘inside he’s burning’ — the anger has subsided to indifference,” Nikkah wrote.
The reporter continues, “A friend tells me: ‘What has struck me the most recently is that he just doesn’t mention it at all. It used to be that the family stuff was taking up a lot of space in his head; it was a very close relationship, and he was very upset. But he’s not letting it get to him at all anymore. It is a change. It’s sad, but it’s a much healthier space for him to be at.’”

Harry and William have reportedly not spoken to each other since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022. This somber occasion was also the last time the brothers and their wives, Kate Middleton and Meghan, jointly appeared to meet the public. Prior, the last time William was joined publicly by his brother was at the funeral of their grandfather, Prince Philip, in April 2021.
After leaving royal life behind, Harry and Meghan spoke out to the media, sharing the difficulties they faced as a married couple within the institution. The couple sat down with Oprah Winfrey to discuss the events that led to their exit.
The couple spoke of intense media scrutiny and the lack of support they felt from the institution. They also shared Meghan’s mental health struggles as a working royal.
The Duke of Sussex subsequently did a 60 Minutes interview in which he acknowledged his brother was no longer speaking to him. “Currently, no,” he said. “But I look forward to us being able to find peace.”
In May 2025, Harry was interviewed by the BBC. “There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family,” he stated.
Harry concluded, “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious.”
