mattie Healey makes a subtle reference to ex Taylor Swift while performing at the Glastonbury Festival in England on June 27th the frontman for the 1975 caused the ears of Taylor Swift fans to perk up when he made what seemed to be a sarcastic reference to the singer whom he briefly dated in early 2023 mattie said in footage captured by Variety “I want to be sincere for a second with everybody what this moment is making me realize is that I probably am the best i’m probably the best songwriter of my generation.” Dropping a potential reference to Taylor’s the tortured poet’s department album he continued “The best what do we say a poet ladies and gentlemen is what I am.” The musician who also referred to himself as a generational wordssmith while teething up his band’s next performance Mattie shared while drinking from a pint glass “I just want to remind you for the next couple of minutes these lyrics this poetry I bleed for you.” While the singer didn’t reference Taylor by name while on stage his self-identification as a poet certainly seemed like a call back to a 2024 song inspired by their relationship but that wasn’t the only reason Mattiey’s Glastonbury show Race Eyebrows for Swifties fans also noticed he was wearing a pin featuring Peter Pan a character he has used in the past to describe himself as well as one that Taylor used to reference her lover in the tortured poets department track Peter which fans believe is about Maddie eight months before the rocker’s poetic comments he again prompted fans to wonder if he took a dig at the singer during an interview about the inspirations for his music mattie said on an October episode of the Doomscroll podcast “I would just be lying if I made a record about all the stuff that was said about me or my casual romantic liaison or whatever it may be that I’ve become known for just because I was famous.” He continued “I think that a lot of artists become very interested in their lore or they become interested in the things that have happened outside of their art that people know about and they want to address that and fair enough however as Maddie concluded I think that that’s an obvious thing to draw from i’m just not interested in it.” While fans believe a few of Taylor’s songs are inspired by Maddie they also feel the same is true about her other ex Joe Olwin [Music]
