That’s not to say that the Princess has forgone flashier occasions: recently, she has made appearances at major royal events including Trooping the Colour, Garter Day and VE Day, but it’s possible that she considered Ascot to be a less crucial and more demanding invitation. ‘Ascot is more exhausting than it looks,’ Seward explained to HELLO! magazine. ‘It involves an early start, and there’s a long process of hair and make-up and getting the right outfit.’ With a Windsor Castle lunch followed by a ‘bumpy carriage ride where the whole world is looking at you’ on one of the hottest days of the year, Seward surmised that the Princess ‘probably simply didn’t feel up to it.’
Could royal fans be treated to a glimpse of the Princess at Wimbledon, an event she usually likes to attend?

There’s a chance, however, that royal fans may soon catch a glimpse of Kate Middleton in the next few days. The Princess is a regular in the royal box at Wimbledon, and with the world’s greatest tennis players descending upon SW19 for the Grand Slam, it’s likely that Kate, as patron of the All England Club, will pay a visit to Centre Court. Any appearance among the crowds would no doubt be a happy reminder of last year’s tournament, when the royal received a standing ovation as she made her second public appearance following the announcement of her cancer diagnosis last February.
The mother-of-three appeared to be in glowing spirits as she waved to the waiting fans who had gathered to watch Novak Djokovic take on Carlos Alcaraz in the Gentlemen’s Singles final, a match that Alcaraz would go on to win. Perhaps this year, royal watchers will be lucky enough to see the Princess back on those famous courts – continuing her recovery on her own terms.
