Prince William and Princess Kate have been happily married for 14 years, and many of the traits they displayed in the early days of their relationship still exist today. When out and about, especially on royal engagements, their competitive nature is hard to miss, with them often cracking jokes at each other’s expense.

However, while they both might want to win each sporting game, Prince William did once make a sweet confession about the one sport he just can’t win at. The Prince of Wales, 43, made this admission to Australian tennis star Rod Laver, when he spoke to him in the Royal Box at Wimbledon.

Talking about the moment, Laver told The Daily Mail in 2020: “I’d met William and Kate a few times, and in the Royal Box you get a chance to chat with them a little bit.”

He continued: “They (William and Kate) play tennis against each other. William told me he couldn’t beat her.”

This is not the first time a comment about the couple’s competitive tennis nature has been made.

When making a special appearance on Mike Tindall’s podcast, The Good, The Bad and The Rugby, Princess Kate joked: “I’m really not that competitive, I don’t know where this has come from.”

She then said that she had never been able to finish a game of tennis with William, stating “it becomes a mental challenge between the two of us”.

As well as the Prince and Princess of Wales playing tennis, it is believed their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, all enjoy their sport.

It is believed that they practice at home, with George having also once had the privilege of having a tennis lesson with Wimbledon star Roger Federer in 2019 at his grandparents’ home.

It is believed the lesson was set up by Princess Kate, who is friends with Federer.

While George and Charlotte have both attended the Wimbledon tennis competition with their parents before, Prince Louis is yet to make his Wimbledon Royal Box debut.
