Prince William has been the Prince of Wales for nearly three years, a role that comes with significant responsibilities. Since his father ascended to the throne in 2022, William has taken on all the duties associated with being the heir apparent, including overseeing the Duchy of Cornwall estate.
The estate holds particular significance for the 43-year-old prince as it provides income for him and his family, intended for both public and private use. It’s reported that William pays income tax on his earnings from the estate, but this year, he hasn’t disclosed the exact amount, which is speculated to be in the top tax bracket.
Unlike King Charles, who used to provide a detailed breakdown when he was Prince of Wales, William hasn’t divulged in the annual Duchy of Cornwall report how many housekeepers, chefs, butlers, gardeners, etc., he employs.

Instead, the prince has simply shared that he and Princess Kate have 68 staff members who support their work and the lifestyle of their three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.
The specific roles of these staff members remain undisclosed, a move believed to enhance security. However, it’s reported that many of them are still based at Kensington Palace rather than the couple’s Windsor home, stepping in to assist the family as needed.
Prince William and Princess Kate have chosen to move to the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Castle estate in 2022, a residence that doesn’t accommodate live-in staff.

The decision is thought to be deliberate, with the future King and Queen aiming to provide as normal an upbringing as possible for their children, George, Charlotte, and Louis.
This includes preparing their own meals and handling school pick-ups and drop-offs without assistance from Royal personnel.
The relocation also offers the children greater privacy both inside and outside, allowing the family more room to live like any other family.
Royal commentator Jennie Bond once told the i Paper: “They (William and Kate) can’t change the fact that their children have been born into an extraordinary destiny.
“They’ve introduced them gently to some of the pomp and pageantry, but they’ve also given them a taste of a more ordinary existence—moving out of Kensington Palace to a relatively modest house with no live-in staff.”
This perspective of the couple’s desire to offer their children a “normal” upbringing was also echoed by Royal expert Katie Nicholl, who once stated: “They are far more ordinary than many might imagine – the kids even have to do chores in return for their pocket money.
“It’s about them wanting to have a normal, happy, ordinary family home and lifestyle, which, at Adelaide Cottage, they are really achieving.”
