Reports have surfaced claiming that the late Queen had her ‘doubts’ about Meghan Markle and now a royal expert has shed light on what he believes was the Duchess of Sussex’s plan from day one.

One of the closest confidants of the late Queen Elizabeth has reportedly claimed that the former monarch had long-standing doubts regarding the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.
The late Queen is said to have been very keen on Meghan at the start of her and Prince Harry’s relationship, and the couple have never spoken about the former monarch in anything other than positive terms.
The Duke of Sussex was very close with his grandmother, and Meghan has also spoken on how high she held the Queen after the kindness she showed her when she first joined the Royal Family, the Mirror reports.
However Lady Elizabeth Anson, one of the late Queen’s cousins and close confidant reportedly revealed to an author and journalist, Sally Bedell Smith that even in the run up to Harry and Meghan’s wedding doubts started to form in the heads of royals about the bride-to-be.
It has been reported that the Duke of Sussex had been rude to the late Queen while discussing the wedding and the former Queen’s confidant claims that whilst there was “hope” in royal circles that Meghan was “in love” with Harry, they didn’t “quite think” it to be true, adding, “We think she engineered it all.”
Speaking to The Sun’s Royal Exclusive Show, a royal expert biographer Phil Dampier has said in his opinion these claims are trustworthy due to how close Lady Elizabeth was with her cousin Queen Elizabeth.
The expert added that in his opinion, this showed that Meghan was using the Royal Family as a “stepping stone” to bigger and better things. He also doesn’t believe that she ever intended to stay in the UK permanently as a working royal.

He stated: “I think, unfortunately, that confirms what I’ve been saying or thought for the last few years that, sadly, Meghan never really had any intention of staying in the Royal Family.”
“She saw [it] as a stepping stone getting married to Harry… to new fame and fortune.”
“And I think that’s what initially Prince William was concerned about. And that’s why they fell out. And now we are where we are. But to have this confirmed by somebody so close to the Queen is, is is really dynamite.”
Meghan and Harry have both spoken out about the fact they really tried to make life inside the monarchy work. When they first announced they wanted to step back as full-time working royals in early 2020, they didn’t want to make a full break instead they hoped to represent the crown on a part-time basis.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted to continue supporting the Queen, where possible, whilst making their own money.
However, the senior royals and their aides deemed the part time working model to be unworkable, and fully cut ties from the Sussexes. As well as stripping them of their royal patronages, Harry’s honorary military positions, and their ‘HRH’ styles.
After Harry’s prolonged battle with the Home Office regarding the removal of his automatic police security whilst in the UK, he made it very clear that he doesn’t feel safe bringing his wife and two young children to the UK without it.
Journalist and author Omid Scobie revealed in his biography Endgame that the Duchess of Sussex “never really felt at home” in the UK, and that after everything that has gone on she “never wants to step foot in England again”.
