King Charles reportedly feels that Prince Harry is under the influence of his wife Meghan Markle, according to a claim made by a royal commentator.

The Sussexes have faced a turbulent time adjusting to life across the pond in the US, since stepping down from the Royal Family back in 2020. Having relocated to California to re-start their new life, they have been at the end of harsh criticism.

Most notably including the revelations from Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare and their candid chat with Oprah Winfrey. Meghan’s newest lifestyle venture As Ever, and their Netflix documentary series has also came under fire recently.

Royal expert Esther Krauke has now suggested that although the pair have deliberately distanced themselves from official royal duties, Meghan, 43, may be disconcerted by her diminished tie to royalty, and voiced concerns from the King over Harry, 40, being excessively influenced by his wife, reports the Mirror.

Speaking to The Sun, Krauke said: “We know that King Charles said something about him being whipped. We keep hearing things consistently coming out from courtiers and people that are close to the Royal Family.”

The journalist and TV presenter continued: “The Queen’s opinion of Meghan evolved, and it’s much like how the country’s opinion evolved. I think where things went wrong was clearly the cultural clash. I think in some ways Meghan thought she was marrying a billionaire, but was marrying a millionaire with like sort of a reduced status.”

Krauke suggested that Meghan may not have “fully understand or was even interested” in her royal duties. She also pointed out that the duchess hadn’t accumulated enough “hadn’t earned enough brownie points to actually be able to choose the tools she wanted to go on in the way that she wanted to do or curate her image in the same way”.

Harry and Meghan’s May 2018 wedding has been overshadowed by fresh bombshell allegations about tensions. A royal biographer has claimed that Harry’s actions had left the late Queen ‘dismayed’, with suggestions he nearly jeopardised his relationship with his grandmother.

Sally Bedell Smith alleges that Lady Elizabeth Anson, a party planner and cousin of Elizabeth II, confided before her passing that the Queen had grown “very worried” about Harry and there were doubts over Meghan’s intentions.

Jennie Bond, ex-BBC Royal correspondent, described the situation as ‘extremely sad’ to the Mirror. She said: “There have been too many reports about tensions in the weeks running up to Harry and Meghan’s marriage to discount them. I think the old saying ‘there’s no smoke without fire’ holds true.

“Lady Elizabeth Anson was certainly a very well-connected and informed source for these latest reports, which suggest that the Queen felt Harry was rushing into a marriage too quickly.

“Worse than that, it seems the Queen and other members of the Royal Family doubted Meghan’s sincerity and found her very difficult to deal with.”

She continued, “It’s extremely sad to think that the situation also soured the late Queen’s relationship with her very much loved grandson, Harry: a young man she had nurtured and guided through the very worst time of his life, the death of his mother.

“Is it fair that all this is being brought up so many years later? Maybe not, but then perhaps Meghan shouldn’t allude to lies being told about her eight years ago, which she did in a recent podcast.

“The fact is the royal story is always a source of curiosity and will sell books and papers, especially when there is a whiff of discord or scandal.”
