MMA’s Ben Askren Says He Died 4 Times Amid Severe Pneumonia Diagnosis | E! News

I only died four times. Ben Ascrin is overcoming the biggest fight of his life a month after his wife Amy Ascrin revealed he was hospitalized following a diagnosis with a severe case of pneumonia. The MMA fighter offered an update of his own. Ben said in a July 9th Instagram video filmed from his hospital bed. I don’t remember anything from May 28th to July 2. No recollection, new idea, no idea what happened. Um, we’ll kind of go through it all and and it’s a I just read through my wife’s journal. It’s like a It’s like a movie. It’s ridiculous. So, I only died four times, right? Where the ticker stopped for about 20 seconds. That’s not ideal. I don’t guys know that. The MMA fighter spoke about the life-saving surgery he underwent and how his health battle has impacted his current weight class. But I got the double lung transplant. I made it out to the other side of it. Um, gaining quite a bit of strength. Um, learning to use everything again. I was actually, honestly, yesterday 147 lbs. I’ve been on 47 lbs since 15 years old. Um, so I was like 50 lb in a 45day period. And while he doesn’t remember a lot of the events from his hospital stay, the Olympic wrestler expressed what it meant to have his community rallying around him. The thing that was most impactful to me was all the well the love I felt from everybody. And it’s almost like it was almost like I got to have my own funeral. So man, the outpouring of love from the wrestling community was just it was just amazing. Felt so good. Still with a long road to recovery ahead of him, he remains optimistic. And so, you know, I’m I’m more motivated than ever just to keep giving give back and do do what I can and help out the best I can help out. Um, I love you guys. I appreciate you guys. His been tough, not only on me, but my, you know, my whole family and my close community. So, I appreciate everything. Hope you guys appreciate the update. [Music]

Ben Askren gave an update on his health a month after the MMA fighter was hospitalized with a severe case of pneumonia, sharing that reading his wife’s recollection of the ordeal is “like a movie.”
