Love Island USA’s Cierra Breaks Silence on Exit Over Racial Slur | E! News
I completely agree with the network’s decision to remove me from the villa. I think that this is something that deserved punishment and the punishment has absolutely been received for sure. Sierra Ortega is owning up to her actions. After the Love Island USA contestant was removed from the show on the July 6th episode, she is speaking out to address the circumstances surrounding her departure. Sierra says this in a video she shares to Instagram on July 9th. I’ve been back in the US for about 48 hours and I’ve had the chance to process. I now feel like I’m at a space where I can speak about this without being highly emotional because I am not the victim in this situation. The 25-year-old acknowledges that she had used a racial slur for Asian people in a past social media post which resurfaced when she appeared on season 7 of the Peacock Dating Show. While I was in the villa, there were some posts that resurfaced from my past where I was very naively using an incredibly offensive and derogatory term. And before I get into the details, I want to first start by addressing not just anyone that I have hurt or deeply offended, but most importantly, the entire Asian community. I am deeply, truly, honestly so sorry. I had no idea that the word held as much pain, as much harm, and came with the history that it did, or I never would have used it. I had no ill intention when I was using it. But that’s absolutely no excuse because intent doesn’t excuse ignorance. It just doesn’t. Sierra goes on to say that what has been the most difficult is how her family is facing backlash for her actions. And you know, I can do my best to drown out the noise and pay attention to the truth, but what’s been extremely extremely difficult is the way people are approaching my family and my loved ones. Um, you know, they have had ICE called on them. My family doesn’t feel safe in their own home. I’m receiving death threats. Like, it’s there’s no need to fight hate with hate. I don’t think that that’s justice. And if you want to know that you are heard and that I’m sorry and that I will move differently, I promise you that’s what will happen. Sierra adds on her Instagram story. While I’m heartbroken my journey had to be cut short, I understand that mistakes, especially ones like this, deserve consequences. [Music]

Ridiculous everybody is a bit more racist especially in traffic get over it quit canceling people.
That empathy jumper and her saying it’s an accountability video instead of an apology video gave very much PR move she knew what she was doing with that it’s not my place to accept the apology but she seemed genuine is all I can say.
I feel bad for her I have empathy the type of vitriol is filled by hate and anger rather than any type she right why do ppl fight hate with hate I hope she is off social media spend times with her loves but, calling ice is crazy especially in current climate in America these people are terrifying and miserable.
People can pretend all they want that this situation was solely about her saying a racial slur. She demonstrated that she has taken accountability for her actions in 2024. The fact that people went searching for information to get her removed from the show to promote the fantasy of Nick and Olandria being together is toxic.
OMG beck-a
This comes off really ingenious and staged by her PR team. She comes off more calculated like what people have been saying about her. It doesn’t seem real and from her heart. She’s trying to save face at this point.
What was the word?
man leave cierra alone
I don’t think that anyone should use the N-word if they’re acting like the definition of it, ignorant and uncivilized. That’s why that word does not offend me and I don’t give it power. People use the N word ,because they think it breaks Black people's spirit. and the only way the N-word can break your spirit is if you give it power to do so.
Although the apology video was a clearly written by a PR master, the issue was not just the USE of the slur, but also the CONTEXT in which it was used. Slurs are never okay and should always be condemned, furthermore, how they are used and the intention behind the word is also incredibly important. Nowhere in the video does she apologize for pushing the stereo type of asians having smaller eyes, but she literally said she wanted plastic surgery to avoid looking like someone from the asian community. That to me, as an asian, was incredibly hurtful because she used the slur while insinuating that asian features are undesirable and need to be "fixed". No where in this apology does she acknowledge the damage she has done to anyone (especially within the asian community) who may be insecure about their eyes. Transparency is important, yes, but how she "justifies/describes" the purpose of plastic surgery by putting a hole community down is the true issue here.
She should have said slanted eyes instead of c&*$!# . I learned today never to use the c&*$!# because it’s hurtful and offensive to the Asians.
