Ian Xering is paying tribute to his friend. The Beverly Hills 90210 alum honors his former co-star Shannon Doerty on the first anniversary of her death, revealing why he waited to speak about it on social media. He writes on his July 13th Instagram post alongside a photo of the two of them together at Steel City Con in 2024. Quote, “When she died a year ago, I didn’t post anything.” And yes, some people criticize that. To them, I say grief isn’t a performance. It’s personal. Let people grieve how they grieve. He admits he struggled being around his castmates over the past year without Shannon, especially as the group continues to mourn Luke Perry, who died of a stroke in 2019. Ian emphasized, quote, “That kind of loss doesn’t fade. It just rearranges the furniture in your heart.” He continues, quote, “I miss Shannon. We clash now and then in the early years of 902 and two strong personalities will do that, but we always had respect. I was the wisecracking comic relief. She was the beautiful chaos, the after hours headline, the girl who could trash a hotel room and make the tabloids love her for it. The Shark NATO actor recalled first learning of Shannon’s breast cancer diagnosis in 2015, which went on to spread to her liver, brain, and bones by November 2023. The charmed alum’s resilience made her death at 53 seem unreal to Ian at first. He explains, quote, “That’s why her passing hit me like a freight train. I was shocked. I truly believe she was going to pull off one more miracle. So my dear Shannon, I think of you often. Your grit, your fire, your kind heart that so few really got to see. I still carry it all with me. Rest easy, Shan.
