Lauren Sánchez’s gold-plated Hermès Kelly bag will set you back a quarter-million dollars #shorts
Lauren Sanchez’s wedding was anything but ordinary, so why should her everyday bag be any different? In recent weeks, and during her multi-day Venice nuptials last month, the newly minted Mrs. Jeff Bezos has been spotted carrying an extremely rare version of Hermes’s iconic Kelly purse, the Kelly Midas. It’s inspired, of course, by King Midas, the Greek mythological figure whose touch turned anything and everything to gold. The bag’s handle is partially crafted from 18 karat gold and all the hardware is solid gold, too. Daniel Englander, an expert on luxury resale site Fashion Files VIP Relations team, told me that while retail pricing info is scarce, a capskin version of the Kelly Midas retails for around $115,000, while a crocodile one like Sanchez’s will cost you closer to $170,000 at an Hermes boutique. That said, only top Hermes clients are offered the opportunity to purchase its bags and especially rarer models like these in store. For everyone else, resale’s the way to go. And Eninger says exotic skin versions of the Kelly Midas can fetch up to $250,000 on the secondhand market. Given Sanchez is a loyal Hermes customer with several Birkens to her name, she’s likely one of the lucky few able to purchase a gold dip bag the oldfashioned way. And since she reportedly hosted a private shopping event at Hermes during her bachelorette party in Paris, Englander says it’s quite possible she picked up the piece there.
