Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly on the hunt for a more spacious Royal abode, with insiders suggesting they have a preferred choice in mind.

The couple relocated to Adelaide Cottage three years ago, and while the residence within Windsor Castle’s grounds provides comfort, it was never expected to be their permanent home.

The four-bedroom property is relatively humble by Royal standards, and it’s believed that they’ve been discreetly exploring other options.

Adelaide Cottage pales in comparison to the family’s previous primary residence – a grand apartment in Kensington Palace – and they’re keen to find a larger space for their children, George, Charlotte, and Louis.

It seems that Fort Belvedere, a magnificent gothic revival mansion in Windsor Great Park, is the top contender. According to sources who spoke to the Mail on Sunday, William and Kate may have set their sights on Fort Belvedere, an 18th-century construction that was Edward VIII’s favourite residence before his abdication to marry Wallis Simpson.

Edward VIII had the property refurbished, adding a swimming pool, tennis court, and stables. The expansive estate features a lengthy driveway leading up to the entrance and even boasts a moat encircling it, reports the Mirror.

It’s understood that William and Kate had previously considered the vacant Fort Belvedere before settling on Adelaide Cottage.

At that time, they reportedly felt that Adelaide Cottage was a better fit as it was closer to Queen Elizabeth, and they also wanted to provide their children with a more grounded upbringing.

But now the situation has evolved, and the grade II-listed property could be the solution. “They feel they have outgrown Adelaide Cottage and need somewhere more substantial,” a source revealed to the publication.

“This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and tennis court, and Charlotte loves playing tennis.”

It was previously hinted that the Wales family might opt for a larger space by annexing a building adjacent to Adelaide Cottage, which would preclude the need for a move.

“Nobody knows that there is quite a spacious red-brick annex building that’s not being used next door to Adelaide Cottage. It’s currently inhabitable and needs extensive renovation works if it were to be used,” an insider informed the Express.

“Discussions have been ongoing for a while about using the property as part of the overall cottage grounds, but it’s just about finding the right time to kick the project off.”
