I vaguely understand what she is getting at, but it’s a ‘keep it in your brain’ thought because there are too many icky things it can mean.

This is a pretty weird comment. Regardless of her intention, it’s not a great sign when white supremacists are interpreting this as a dog whistle (which they are all over Twitter).
I get what she means, but it sounds so bad. Especially because Ireland, like many countries, has immigrants. There are Irish people who have Pakistani heritage (2nd generation) but they’re still Irish even if they aren’t white.
Also, I have to comment on the phenomenon of Americans identifying as “Irish” because two generations ago they’re great whatever immigrated here. Okay, but you’re still American. You’re not Irish, you have Irish heritage. If you want to be Irish, get dual citizenship. People in Ireland call these “Irish” people “plastic paddy’s.”

I remember going to a dinner with a trader several years ago when he came to the US. He was Irish and working in the UK. He mentioned how Americans of Irish descent kept referring to themselves as beign Irish when they were so removed from the politics and culture of the region. He was sick of it.
I completely get where he’s coming from. Her comments are off-putting.

This clip was posted by a white supremacist on twitter, conveniently cut off to make her look bad. After the cut she says how they’re all so pasty (pale), just like her https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGdaYQ1Pa/

White Americans whole thing where they refuse to simply identify as “an American” confuses me to no end. Like, y’all are the majority group of the most powerful country in the world, your culture is the standard sold as an ideal to the rest of the world through soft core propaganda, where does the need to be “25% Irish, 25% Italian, 50% Greek” which adds up to a Whole Lotta White™️ come from?
I kinda get it when it comes from minorities, because anyone who is slightly racialized is largely made to feel “other” even if they born American citizens, but white people who never get the “but where are you *really* from?” passive aggressive questions… why?

I get it lol. Lowkey me because my mom is a tiny brown skinned Italian and she married a 6-4 Irish man and wonders why I’m pale and thick edit but ya just be like I’m glad to see my Irish ancestry reflected here

I’m sure it wasn’t intended this way, but this is not a good look considering that ireland has had a huge uptick in racist incidents/anti immigration (read: brown person) sentiment recently

I like how Americans always say they are such and such when clearly they are American lol.
On the other hand you could say I’m of such and such descent but generally you never hear that! But some comments should really be left in your head!

Well the Irish do have a distinctive look, but not a quote that plays well on social media.

I wouldn’t have thought she’s particularly Irish looking, but I didn’t realize it’s so controversial to say different white ethnic groups have distinct looks lol
White people are so blended together in the US that we don’t really notice it, but there are absolutely differences! She’s not making that up
(Like, I take after the scandi side of the family and my brother takes after the British side, and the result is that I have a stronger resemblance to pretty much any random Norwegian than with my own sibling. You can def see a difference if you’re paying attention)

Honestly I feel bad for her and how this is gonna be interpreted. I’m Croatian and when I went to Croatia for the first time I felt like everybody looked like me, my parents, other family members etc. Not because they were white, but just because they had similar facial structure, coloring, noses, body type and everything. I could totally see myself accidentally saying something like that and not realizing the implications
