Is Phil Collins Receiving Hospice Care? The Truth | E! News

A representative for Phil Collins is sharing an update on his health. On July 26th, Phil’s spokesperson confirmed to People magazine that the Genesis musician’s recent hospitalization was not due to a terminal illness and that rumors of him being in hospice are quote completely incorrect. The rep clarified that the 74year-old is not in hospice care, but that he is currently in the hospital recovering from knee surgery. Phil has been candid about his health battles which stemmed from a 2007 spinal injury that left him with severe nerve damage and limited mobility complicating his ability to play his instrument of choice, the drums. By June 2025, the musician revealed that he had stopped playing percussion entirely. He told Mojo at the time, “I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens, but I’m not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I’ve been sick. I mean, very sick.” Phil, who was the father of actress Lily Collins, also opened up about the loss of his performance ability in the documentary Phil Collins Drummer First, which was filmed in 2022 and released 2 years later. In the film, the musician states, “It’s still kind of sinking in a bit. I’ve spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock.” He went on to explain that the physical toll of drumming for so many years had impacted his hands and legs. Phil, who won the Oscar for best original song in 2000 for You’ll Be In My Heart from the movie Tarzan, reunited with Genesis for their last Domino tour, where his son Nick Collins played the drums on his behalf.
