Bryan Kohberger’s Fellow Inmate Details His Unusual Behavior in Jail | E! News

One of Brian Cobberger’s fellow inmates details his unusual behavior in jail. Before the 30-year-old plead guilty to the November 2022 murders of University of Idaho students Kaylee Gonzalez, Madison Mogan, Xanakod, and Ethan Chapen, an inmate who lived next to him from August 2024 to September 2024 detailed his curious behavior behind bars. According to Moscow Police Department documents, which were released publicly in July and obtained by E-News, Corporal Brett Payne recalled speaking with an inmate whose cell was directly next to Cobberger’s Atlanta County Jail. Payne explained that the inmate, whose name was redacted from the files, said Coberger quickly became annoying due to some of his habits, which included washing his hands dozens of times each day and spending 45 minutes to an hour in the shower. After Payne, who served as the lead investigator in the murder case, subsequently asked the inmate about Coberger’s sleeping habits, he responded that the now convicted murderer would be awake almost all night and could be heard moving around all night per the docks. While the inmate described Kberger as highly intelligent and polite for the most part, he also lost his temper on at least one occasion. According to Payne, the inmate remembered watching sports one day while Coberger was on a video call with his mother and after the inmate yelled, “You suck!” at one of the players. Coberger immediately got up and aggressively asked if the inmate was talking about him or his mother. Meanwhile, the inmate also told Payne that Coberger did not mention his alleged offenses at all and instead would often question the inmate about his prior offenses and inquire about his placement in the maximum security wing of the jail. Coberger was given four consecutive life sentences following his plea. [Music] [Music]

    1. The less I hear about this butcher, the better. What a shameful occurrence. Maybe you agree with me. This is such a harsh reality. No one is safe. Please be cautious of your surroundings.

    2. Bryan perhaps addressed the situation of a percieved "you suck" in order to not look weak (or at least practice doing so…for the chance that he ever eventually enters a prison) amongst his peers. That said, it's also a wonder if the term "aggressive" is another word for "abrupt…" or that Bryan simply expressed urgency in addressing a percieved verbal insult, in order to not give the impression of a sitting duck. Or… that he perhaps (allegedly) acted in this way primarily as a preventative measure of confrontations, rather than to escalate them.

    3. His jail conduct sounds pretty normal for someone with OCD, long-developed, silent, edgy, hatred, and probably schizoid narcissist socio-psychopathy. Also, night owls and people who love long, hot showers and baths. Seeing him at a traffic stop you think how much freedom he traded for this. Maybe it half suits him. Thankfully, they now have access to the outside world and entertainment via the internet. It helps keep the peace, which is safer for the guards, and is humanitarian, even if they aren't.
