Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have shared a new message on The Archewell Foundation website this month about AI technology. The message comes the same month as the news broke that the couple’s deal with Netflix, which was signed in 2020, is not set to be renewed when it ends in September.

Although Prince Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, have not addressed the upcoming end of their relationship with Netflix, they have continued to work hard under their The Archewell Foundation. Their latest work is believed to be focused on keeping children safe online, especially with AI.

In a new statement issued on their website, it has been confirmed that the Foundation supports Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund grantees who have helped influence the recent Senate vote to remove a 10-year AI Moratorium.

This moratorium would have stripped states from having authority to act on AI, for example by removing protections for child safety and deepfake regulation.

It is believed Harry and Meghan feel passionately about social media and technology, and ensuring it is a safe space for children.

A statement on the Archewell Foundation website read: “The vote to remove this AI moratorium is a small step toward keeping technology safe by design.

“It is the beginning of a longer fight to ensure AI remains safe and innovative for everyone and exemplifies the power of young people and their determination to make our online world and safer and more empowering space for all.”

The foundation spotlighted the work of young people in helping this removal of the AI moratorium, including The Young People’s Alliance which was led by Advocacy Director Ava Smithing.

It is believed this group helped the outcome by bringing together over 800 parents and 100 students who each contacted their U.S. representatives urging them to vote no.

The group, along with Encode AI, also co-lead a letter which helped remove the AI moratorium.

Both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have previously spoken about the need to keep children safe online.
