It was one of the most hoped-for royal appearances of the year: Princess Charlotte—who has long rooted for England’s women’s soccer team, the Lionesses, alongside dad, Prince William—showed up to cheer them on in Switzerland last weekend as they triumphed over Spain in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 Final.

It was quite a show, with the Lionesses clinching the title, following a penalty shoot-out. Still, what caught our eye was Charlotte’s body language as she took in the game. It’s giving Kate Middleton—and here’s why.

The Princess of Wales is renowned for her facial expressions at athletic events in particular. Take Wimbledon, for example. Sunglasses on or not, Kate appears to feel every hit and miss throughout the tournament as she watches.

Based on Charlotte’s appearance at EURO 2025 Final, she’s the same—delightfully invested in her team’s success, but also visibly reacting to every play (the good and the bad) on the field.
As far as royal appearances go, that’s what makes sporting events some of our favorite outings to watch. It’s a time where we get a chance to really see them be their authentic selves. In fact, royal protocol seems to go out the window as they root loudly and proudly for their favorite team or player.

Charlotte also seems to know the right moment to anchor her hands so she isn’t seen fidgeting, something that was extra apparent at the game. (Kate does this in front, but Charlotte opted to place her palms behind her back—a pro move.)
Still, Charlotte—like Kate—is extra expressive. We love to see it.
