‘The Princess Diaires’ premiered 24 years ago

Just hit me that Anne Hathaway had multiple movies where her friends were selfish-ass haters.

I met Robert Schwartzman when his band was really popular in the early 2000’s. He asked me how old I was and when I said 26, he replied with, “See you when you’re 18.” 🙃

I loved the books. I read them after the first movie came out and stanned Michael Moscovitz and Mia so hard. I thought young Robert Schwartzman was so cute as Michael, then I realized he was Francis Ford Coppola’s nephew and Jason Schwartzman’s brother. Fun fact, Jason was in Phantom Planet, most known for doing the OC’s theme song (Californiaaaaa, here we cooome!) Which is a great song, natch. But Robert was the lead singer of Rooney, who has no such claim to fame but imo was the better band. Their early stuff, anyway. When Did Your Heart Go Missing was probably their biggest hit and came out years later after I was over Princess Diaries and into wine coolers. That song still reminds me of a light buzz and blunt wraps.

Time flies!! I loved the books as a kid (Michael Moscovitz is the OG book boyfriend), but only just watched the first movie a few weeks ago. For all the ways it ignores all the source material, it’s still a fun movie! I start giggling whenever Mia and Michael are in scenes together. I wonder if they’ll end up together in Princess Diaries 3?
