The Gist

A spokesperson for Prince Harry has made a statement denying several claims about him and Prince Andrew made in a new biography.

In the book, the author claims that Andrew and Harry had a physical altercation in 2013.

This follows Harry’s legal case against NGN (News Group Newspapers) which reached a settlement earlier this year.

A new royal biography makes several claims about Prince Harry’s relationship with his uncle Prince Andrew—and a spokesperson for Harry has now come out to deny the claims publicly. In Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, author Andrew Lownie writes that “heated argument” between Harry and Andrew broke out during a family gathering in 2013. The fight was allegedly about “something Andrew said behind Harry’s back” and it got so heated that “punches were thrown.” In another section of the book, Lownie writes that Andrew had once called Harry’s future wife Meghan Markle an “opportunist.” An excerpt of the book was published by the Daily Mail.

A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex has now claimed that neither of these accounts are accurate. “I can confirm neither of those things are true,” the spokesperson said to People. “Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make those comments about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry.”

Legal action is reportedly underway. “Such are the gross inaccuracies, damaging and defamatory remarks made in the Daily Mail’s story, I can confirm a legal letter from Prince Harry’s counsel has been sent to the Mail,” the spokesperson went on.

This isn’t the first time Harry has taken a stand against claims made in the tabloids. In fact, this year, Harry also received an apology along with an eight-figure settlement from NGN (News Group Newspapers, publisher of The Sun and former outlet News of the World) marking the end of his lawsuit against the tabloid publisher.

This year also marked the end of a hearing that looked into the removal of the prince’s security ahead his departure from the U.K. with Meghan in 2020. During the case, lawyers argued that the pair “felt forced to step back from the role of full-time official working members of The Royal Family as they considered they were not being protected by the institution.”

Harry and Markle moved to California in 2020 amid reports of a rift between Harry and his royal family members. Last month royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith told People that “the underlying issue is trust. The King and William don’t trust Harry and Meghan [Markle] with any kind of confidential conversation.”
