TBF, I haven’t heard or seen her say a single thing about any of this. Everyone else made it political. She was just getting paid for another one of her “I have big tits and sex sells,” ad deals.

I mean, for all people like Ben Shapiro like to whine about Hollywood being a liberal enclave that hates Republicans, it seems like conservatives/Republicans only lose star power by being consistently loud and wrong – see: Gina Carano.

I know I won’t watch any more Sydney Sweeney projects (not that I was her target demographic to begin with) but especially in the current culture of the US, she can probably just say nothing and she’ll be fine. Worst case scenario, this is her speed running the inevitable ‘It Girl’ backlash cycle, she’ll take a few years off to get married and have a baby or two before returning with some indie awards darling project, like Jennifer Lawrence did.

    3. She’s a registered Republican. She knew exactly what she was doing and she feels no remorse. We all heard the dog whistle.

We don’t care. Let the chips fall where they may. If she wants to be anything other than a passive participant in her self-image, let her. If she wants to remain silent, objective herself, make the check and align herself with her party, let her. Let her be an Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence-mashup for all we care.

There are better jeans out there. We know that, either way it goes.

I look forward to her movies where she stars alongside Scott Baio and Kevin Sorbo

She exercised her right to vote. Audiences have the right to choose whether to support her career or not. Let the free market principles rule.

she’s so painfully bland for a _controversial_ figure.
there are celebrities that go full mask off and it stings a little because you had some love or respect for them or their craft, but it doesn’t really feel like a loss when it comes to her. she was never really that charming or talented so the right can have her. she certainly fits right in

    8. ProgressiveSnark2 on

The somewhat bizarre thing about her being Republican is her list of projects.

Many have pointed to The Handmaid’s Tale, but she also portrayed Reality Winner in the TV movie that highlighted Trump as a liar who sided with Putin. It’s a bit bizarre. She must really like low taxes.

“Silence in politics is really important now because if you don’t, you’re going to exposed by the full weight of the opposition on social media.”

I think it’s more complicated than this. I feel like social media drags celebs from staying silent on issues like Palestine more so if they’re vocal.

Silence in politics meshes well with social media if your views conflict with the prevailing online discourse.

Particularly hilarious bc it’s not like she’s remotely educated on politics either. Not everyone needs to study the subject to be knowledgeable but it’s *very* believable that celebrities have pretty well no idea what they’re talking about or OH idk, how it effects the average every day person? Yk, who our politicians are *supposed* to *serve*

I have no idea who this woman is or why I should care about her beyond the jeans thing and at this point I’m too afraid to ask.

    12. controversy aside, i cannot fucking stand the voice she uses in those ads. Its so fake and gives “im a sexy baby” vibes thats just super off putting, and i am a cis male

    13. I can’t believe peoole shat on Swift for being a so-called undercover republican when her political stance has always been consistant. Yeah girl has a shitty taste in men and gives off lots of mean girls energu but come on…

As for Sweeney, she was so arrogant to do shit mike this while having achieved very little in her young career. She’s not big enough to not fall and aftet the Maggots will be bored with her, I don’t know what will be left of her career

    14. We might not see the fallout of this for at least a year. There are projects that are in post production; those will be unaffected. The things early/pre-production are the ones I am curious about.

    15. Emotional_Warthog658 on

Though parties are attached; is this truly political? Feels like its more about humanity at this point, TBH

    16. _”It usually does end in tears when any celebrity gets involved in politics.”_

No it doesn’t. Just look at people like Vanessa Redgrave still being celebrated by everyone at 88 years old, or Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem and Guy Pearce being totally successful and more beloved than ever.

It only ends in tears if the politics the celebrity is involved with is fascism and racism, so it’s fitting that the example used here is “just look at Kanye”.

Average American male: “who cares about her politics, she’s got huge hammers!”

This is neither here nor there but I love how the writer included John Wayne and Charlton Heston into this as if their life or careers have any comparison value in this 2025 political and social nightmare into which we’ve been dropped.

I just don’t get why SS is doing so many ads full stop? She’s made some reasonably smart decisions picking acting projects but shows no discernment when working with brands.

That headband red carpet moment was such great timing – now this can be her featured photo for all upcoming news items. Love that for her 🥰

    22. southendgirl on

It’s really not about her or any other celebrity being a Republican, Democrat, Independent, etc. It is whether you want to live in a Democratic republic or an authoritarian regime. I realize most celebrities are somewhat out of touch due to the income discrepancy, but you can’t live in this country and not be appalled at the direction it is heading while remaining silent.

    23. InviteNecessary1032 on

If Trump spoke or wrote my name in public, I would literally issue an immediate notice that I want nothing to do with that man. I’d go live on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, to let the masses know I want nothing to do with this nonsense. I know I’m a Normal Person but damn, she’s really just like 🤷‍♀️.

    24. Sweeney being a republican was the least surprising thing about her. Getting behind such a bad ad campaign that she will either have to defend or try to avoid for the next year is going to haunt her. Shes’ just not an Oscar tier actress and never will be.

Once Drumpf in the picture, things generally only go one way – ⬇️⬇️⬇️

In the short run, I don’t think much will come from it. I think right wingers will make her feel like she made the right choice for her career for at least the next 6 months, maybe up to the next 1-2 years.

But the thing about the right is that they like their women “young and hot,” so to say, and are not known for supporting female celebs past their perceived “prime.” Sydney is nearing the end of her 20s already and to be blunt, she doesn’t have a look that will age well by misogynistic standards. More left-leaning actresses tend to have longer careers because embracing women over 35 is sadly more of a progressive concept. And when that time comes, I do hope the left remembers and rejects whatever attempt Sydney makes to rewrite history, because she WILL attempt to rewrite history a la Paris Hilton.

    27. Early_Sport2636 on

This is silly. She’s laughing all the way to the bank. If her career did take a dip, she’ll be back with a podcast and an ad deal that will bring in more money. People need to start realizing that in Hollywood, unfortunately, all publicity is good publicity.

    28. SweptThatLeg on

How are they comparing a legit basket case like Kanye to her being a registered Republican?

Blonde republican woman #34668. Okay, now let’s get back to asking for the Epstein files.
