Jimmy Kimmel revealed he has his Italian passport ready, just in case.

During an interview with comedian Sarah Silverman on her podcast, the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host discussed how “much worse” the president’s second term has been for the country, without getting into specifics. He said he has obtained Italian citizenship as a result. Kimmel’s Italian heritage from his mother’s side gave him the option to double up his citizenship.

“What’s going on [with Trump] is as bad as you thought it was gonna be,” Kimmel told his ex-girlfriend.

“I feel like it’s probably even worse than [Trump] would like it to be,” he added.

Kimmel has criticized Trump pretty much nonstop on his late-night show since before the president first won the White House in 2016.

Trump has previously called Kimmel “stupid” and recently said the ABC host would be the next to lose his job after CBS announced in July that it wasn’t renewing Stephen Colbert’s contract.

Since Trump won in 2020, comedians Rosie O’Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres have re-settled in Ireland and England, respectively.

    1. I’ve looked at getting a secondary citizenship. It is a decent amount of effort, but it is available if I wanted to go that way. (I am first gen via one parent.)

That being said, I am not a high profile anyone, so I am not in immediate need of it. He is preparing if things get worse.

I feel like if someone has the capacity to leave and go to another country, I am not gonna shame them. Especially if that person has been anti trump vocally for some time. Privilege or no privilege, if I had the option I would do the same.

I mean, if you were in Germany right before hitler took over, knowing the stuff we know now and having the means to move, would you stay? Why would you willingly stay in a place you know is going to be a dictatorship.

True, we can’t predict the future and say for certain that the US will become a dictatorship, but [experts in fascism are leaving the us](https://youtu.be/IXR9PByA9SY?si=iJ8MLcY5_tLE0LnV), and that’s a good sign that things aren’t looking too hot in the US right now.

I have no ill feelings towards anyone who wants to leave (except politicians). I say if you want to leave and you have the means to leave, go!

    4. A weird thing about late night hosts. Almost all of them are Catholics. Carson and Letterman were mainstream Protestants. But since then Catholicism controls late night. Anyone have a theory?

You know good for him. If you have a means to get out, do it. Let’s not be like crabs in a bucket dragging each other down as we try to escape

Escape how? Honestly I hate trump but this performative protest is bullshit. He could just as easily get on his private plane at the Burbank airplane and leave any time. He can go land anywhere as a tourist or get a visa pretty quickly. Even that random dude you know can up and go move to Spain to escape the 9-5 Jimmy will be fine.

My wife and daughter hold dual citizenship with Australia. As tempting as that is, we’re fucking staying put thank you very much.
