Shes still downplaying it, clearly she doesnt care.

It sucks for the crew that their movie is a flop, but so what? controversial actors get boycotted everyday, youre not gonna guilt trip me into watching a movie cause of the crew.

    2. Can we be honest in that she has never been able to take criticism very well? “Cinema comes first” is bullshit because it excuses harm as well as those who are causing harm because you could literally apply that to anything.

She is good friends with Sydney Sweeney so she cannot be that against her beliefs or the fact that she is a registered republican, unless they have since fallen out which I don’t think they have as they’re said to still be working on a miniseries together and seem very buddy still. Regardless, shes still excusing the actual issue.

Crews work hard on every movie. Maybe Sydney should have thought about that. Not us, Halsey.

She often uses manipulative or gaslighting terms in her responses to criticism. “If you don’t understand what I’m talking about even though I haven’t made it that obvious, YOU should look CLOSER”

      No thanks.
You should look in the mirror.

    3. Ive read the reviews and recaps they should just be grateful they have a scandal to blame for it flopping

I think it’s more so the republican thing that causes people to dislike her and not want to support her projects, not the stupid jeans thing. Celebrities are amazing at missing the point and trying to minimize why people are upset.

    5. I know she’s spoken about acknowledging her white-passing privilege and not wanting to speak over monoracial black people, but that’s exactly what she’s done here by calling it ‘tabloid bullshit’.

It’s ironic because her post is only further bringing negative attention to the movie instead of focusing on the art lmao

    6. I mean, people are kidnapping Mexicans in the street. The economy is collapsing and the president is threatening to overturn the concept of term limits and we had a two week argument about a Fucking jeans commercial.

I don’t know much about Halsey, but I know controlled opposition when I see it and this is what it looks like .

Her response makes no sense, she could simply say she doesn’t support eugenics 🤷‍♀️

I think it probably would have been a 24-hour story tbh if conservative outlets hadn’t jumped on it and the supposed outrage in a desperate attempt to take focus away from far more sinister actions of those currently in power. It is deserving of criticism, certainly, but also frustrating to see people interact with the clips from fox news and fall for their blatant attempt at redirection.

But girl. That isn’t why people didn’t see the movie. I don’t think an actor’s poor behavior or racism has *ever* been the reason for a box office bomb. That is a blatant attempt at redirection of her own…

“cinema comes first” I say as I get ready to rewatch madame web for the 57th time

This statement was so out of touch I got Halsey confused with Grimes and thought “Yeah, I could see this, you had a kid with Elon after all”.

I’m so confused about the discourse around this movie because isn’t it an indie film getting a limited release?

It’s my understanding those aren’t the kind of movies that make a lot of money.

She has never been able to take criticism well so this is par for the course with her

It’s weird to make the public feel like they have an obligation to view a movie. If it doesn’t resonate, it doesn’t resonate.

No one is entitled to an audience.

    14. She picked the wrong horse to hitch her wagon to and now she’s big mad. Next time pick better, punkin

    15. Wrong-Ice8467 on

“Everything I’m permitted to say” — no one has you gagged but your fear of repercussion.

Also I don’t think the films reception has anything to do with this ad. It just didn’t capture anyone’s attention.

    16. I think this was a poor statement but just because someone is white passing doesn’t mean that eugenics theories are beneficial to them. Anti-mixing sentiment is a Hallmark of blood purity eugenics. Just as some eugenicists think any proximity to witness is better, many of them will even advocate for people to keep to their own kind and act like only mixed people are true abominations. I think Halsey is a shill and it’s a dumb comment but it’s weird how people don’t realize it’s hate coming from inside the house.

Sigh. I mean, when the President is commenting on your ad, it’s moved beyond gossip.

I do think it must be difficult to have something you worked hard on tanked because some moron accidentally made a eugenics ad. And I never really expect celebrities to know enough about a controversy to comment on the subject of the controversy. A more disciplined person would have just shut up and talked about it in like 5 years.

    18. Any_Manager_1183 on

Coming from a person who doesn’t understand her history especially being half black is not shocking. She’s extremely stupid.

    19. This type of reckless online behavior is how Halsey got so mad at pitchfork that she accidentally called for a second 9/11.

    20. honeyinmydreams on

cookie cutter out-of-touch response. “if you were a REAL fan, you’d know i would never support eugenics, duh!”

    21. I mean the movie was going to flop regardless of the controversy or not. It really sucks for the director and crew (someone elsewhere on reddit said the director was a film class professor they had in college and that he’s a really nice guy) but there was very little promotion leading up the release of the film. I do hope the director continues to make movies and find success because he doesn’t deserve to have his name dragged because of one of the dumb actresses in it.

With that said it feels like Halsey is still downplaying the controversy. Girl you friend is MAGA. I don’t think people are wrong to be reading into her being a spokesperson for far right advertising.

    22. I don’t know anything about Halsey. Why are people hating this statement?

She’s correct that people are giving way too much attention to this “great jeans controversy”. I don’t doubt that the director and other set workers have received hate mail bc of Sweeney. Like why are we giving this so much attention— There’s so many more issues that we should care about— not this. When I first heard of the ad, I thought “great jeans” was about Sydney having a nice butt or boobs or something???? I didn’t associate it with anything white supremacist related.

If it was, then okay that’s horrible, but I keep hearing about this ad, and sorry but it’s just so dumb in the grand scheme of things. Celebrity gossip and hating on MAGAts is fine but atp it’s excessive and not productive when the U.S. is slipping into authoritarianism, we have war, famine, environment dying, sex trafficking, etc etc. Hating on a dumb ad and a dumb celebrity is fine but cmon there’s a line

    23. Hold up… Sweeney had a film coming out called Americana and then also had the AE jeans ad & no one thought to collab on that and instead went for the “genes” thing? I’m no fashion marketer but what in the hell.
