The Gist
Along with her husband Prince Harry, Meghan Markle moved from the U.K. to the U.S.—California specifically—five years ago, in 2020.
The last time the Duchess of Sussex was on U.K. soil was in 2022, when she attended Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
Speaking on the second season of With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex shared what she misses most about living in her husband’s home country.
It has been over five years since Meghan Markle moved away from the U.K.—and, with her husband Prince Harry’s ongoing security debacle, it’s unclear when she’ll ever return again.
That said, in season two of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex spilled to guest Tan France what she misses the most about the country—and it is surprising.

“Honestly, one of the things I miss the most about the U.K. is the radio station called Magic,” Meghan told France, who is British. Seeming familiar, he responded, “Magic FM?”
“Wow,” France continued. “Now, um, sorry to say this to you publicly, but that’s such a grandma station.”
“I’ll be that grandma,” Meghan responded cheekily. “My favorite station in my car is called Mom Jeans. These are throwback, great singalong, you forget they existed [songs]. I love it.”

Meghan previously opened up to People about her love for Mom Jeans, telling the outlet that “Now, for dropoff and pick up, even Lili will say, “Can we listen to Mama Jeans?’” she said, referring to her daughter Princess Lilibet. “I’m like, ‘It’s Mom Jeans, but yes, we sure can!’”
In an August 26 interview with Emily Chang of “The Circuit,” Meghan discussed something else that is British—her royal title and, ergo, her surname. Particularly after she corrected Mindy Kaling in the first season of With Love, Meghan, much ado has been made about Meghan’s last name, which she explained to Chang is legally Sussex, as in Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. (Meghan famously told Kaling, “You know I’m Sussex now” after the actress called her Meghan Markle.)

“When I got married, I changed my name,” Meghan told Chang on Tuesday. “But it’s a complicated one for people to understand, because a last name is not typical in that construct,” referring to the royal family.
“It sounds silly to say,” Meghan continued. “And I get it, because I’m American and then I went there [the U.K.] and I started to understand. But then you come back and as an American, you go, ‘I’m so confused.’ It’s a dukedom.”
After Chang admitted that the word “dukedom” is “a new word for me,” Meghan added, “at the end of the day, you know, yes—my legal name is Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, but Sussex for us works as our family name and it’s the name that we share with our children.”

“But yes, since we’ve been married, that’s what I’ve been called,” Meghan said.
Queen Elizabeth gave Meghan and Harry their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles upon their May 19, 2018 wedding day. When Chang asked what Meghan had learned since taking on the Sussex surname, Meghan told her, “What I learned about myself is no matter what my name is or what people call me, I’m still the same person.”
“So that didn’t, really—that didn’t change who I am,” she continued. “And maybe that’s probably the biggest distinguishing factor.”

Harry can’t help but poke fun at his wife’s American-ness sometimes, though. On With Love, Meghan, while chatting with chef Clare Smyth—who catered Harry and Meghan’s wedding reception—Meghan said, “My husband always laughs when I say ‘herbs,’” pronouncing it with a silent H. “He’s like, ‘You’re so American.’”
