True advice. Although I too used to do the "Do you have money? You can buy it then" schitck but there are some people/ children that just never learn this lesson. One of my 3 is one. She's in her 40's now and still spends her money in a foolish manner (in mom's opinion) 😅.

Or you can try talking to your kid before entering the store. My mom would always tell us before entering 'today you can't get anything' or 'today you can get 1 thing, no more than $5' and so on, each time we knew the rules/expectation/permissions before entering. No fuss, no fighting. If we whined we got 'I already told you, nothing today'. If we kept whining, she'd put everything down and walk out. Didn't matter where we were or what she was buying. She'd stop and walk out and put us back in the car and have a chat with us about behaviour and expectations.
