Snoop Dogg censored after his ‘Lightyear’ rant gets LGBTQ backlash
Why my grandson in the middle of the movie like Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She a woman. Oh, I didn’t come in for this. I just came to watch the goddamn movie. I’m scared to go to the movies now. Like, y’all throwing me in the middle of that I don’t have an answer for. After Snoop Dogg got backlash for slamming a Pixar movie that featured a lesbian couple, the podcast It’s Giving seemingly caved to the pressure and edited out his controversial comments. The 53-year-old rap legend had criticized the animated film Lightyear for showing two female characters who had a baby. In the now censored episode, Snoop claimed it threw him for a loop and that he’s scared to go to the movies or else he’ll be forced to have certain conversations with his grandkids, adding they’re putting it everywhere. While the Jin and Juice hitmaker joked that he told his grandson to shush and eat his popcorn, many fans weren’t laughing, accusing the rapper of being homophobic. One YouTube commenter wrote, “You’re telling me that as a 50 plus year old man, you still don’t know how to talk to a kid about same-sex parents? Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp? When it first hit theaters in 2022, Lightyear, rated PG, had stirred multiple controversies. Along with replacing Tim Allen with Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz Lightyear, it also marked the first time a gay kiss was depicted in a Pixar feature film. The moment was portrayed by Usuzo Abuda’s character, who is a fellow astronaut. Amid backlash, the scene was briefly cut from the animated flick, but was later restored after Disney and Pixar employees slammed the company for censoring LGBTQ content. Due to the inclusion of the same-sex story line, the film was banned in several Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.

Disney’s decision to keep the scene ultimately led to a ban in some anti-LGBTQ countries.
