This interview is incredibly damning, and this short clip does not even begin to show the extent of the comments made by this self-proclaimed "progressive" congressman. Adam gets emotional at one point about what Israel is doing in his name, and Torres responds by talking down to him and belittling his experience as a Jewish person.

Torres also famously wrote a letter last fall to Amazon/Twitch, calling for pro-Palestinian creators to be banned and permanently deplatformed for their criticism of Israel. https://ritchietorres.house.gov/congressman-ritchie-torres-writes-to-executives-at-twitch-and-amazon-hasan-piker-is-dangerous

Torres is just straight-up evil. Insane to represent one of the poorest districts in NY and to dedicate all of your time to ensuring financial support for a foreign apartheid state. And I’m sure his support of Israel’s unending campaign of violence has absolutely *nothing* to do with the stocks he’s bought in weapons contractors. What a demented, awful man.

    2. “seeing the world differently” to justify systematic genocide is wild. awful human

Crazy that Adam is clearly very emotional in this as he explains the horror of Israel’s atrocities and how that’s impacted him as a Jewish person, while Torres sits there smirking and rolling his eyes utterly unmoved by any of it. Choosing Zionism means losing all of your humanity.

    4. The doublethink going from ‘they’re a terrorist organisation cos they killed innocent people’ to ‘war is a tragedy’ when it’s pointed out how many innocent people Israel has killed is wild.

This was such a weird episode. Its odd to see Adam Friedland go completely straight laced. He knows this is his best chance to speak truth to power and he wasnt going to ruin it on a bit or for clout. I really loved this season of the pod but this was above and beyond anything he’s done there.

I cried with Adam at the end. I really appreciate him breaking character in that moment.

Torres is going to make a staffer rewatch the interview over and over and give him a report about it. He’ll have another staffer create a social media campaign to bail him out – one that continues to spread Zionist rhetoric. All of this for what? More donations? Another term?

Maybe the staffers will wake up.

Ya he sees the world differently because he’s being paid to, there’s a huge difference

    8. “Listen man, you’ve gotta be a human being about this”

It’s nice to see someone have such a sane response to insane genocide denial

    9. I fucking hate this guy for many reasons, but this reason is reason enough. Fuck Torres. Spineless monster who is profiting off of the greed of literal war crimes.

Everybody needs to watch the full interview. I got really emotional at parts listening to Adam talk about his experience living in occupied Palestine.

    11. Same guy the Harris campaign sent to Michigan amidst uneasiness with Palestinian Americans

    12. Torres is very obviously bought and paid for. He will say and do anything to preserve the power that he has.

    13. And this right here…is why democrats aren’t winning. Until these democrats start wising up…we are going to continue to have fascism. We need more options for candidates and we need more people who have real empathy and compassion not a bunch of money and power hungry narcissists.

Whole interview is powerful, I’ve never seen Adam this emotional and not joking around.

    15. Excuse me Adam is not a Jewish man but actually a gay Jewish woman.

Jokes aside this whole interview was infuriating to watch. His responses remind me of that robotic politician that Ben Wyatt works for in Parks and Rec.

No beliefs except what he’s paid to believe.

Torres is literally just a mouthpiece for AIPAC. He has to be defeated in the primaries 🤦🏽‍♂️

    17. millenial_traveler on

Notice how he doesn’t answer the question

Adam: “How many civilians have been killed in this war?”

Torres: *realizing he’s being confronted* “The war is a tragedy.”

    18. tepidDuckPond on

Yeah, there are people who see the world through $1.5 million in campaign contributions 🤣

    19. Damn imagine not having a policy of killing civilians and yet 89% of the casualties are civilians.

    20. Good for him for pushing back. Ritchie Torres is a despicable person and I can’t wait for him to get primaried. You can even tell in Adam’s eyes that he’s disgusted by him.

Also it’s important to note that Adam once was a Zionist and visited Israel and renounced his Zionism when he saw how Palestinians were living the West Bank, so for Ritchie to tell him he doesn’t know what it’s like for Israelis, as if he, an AIPAC lapdog does, is so insulting.

I feel like “that is a notion that I reject” is just a skeezy way to avoid saying the obvious truth – that the Israeli government either (a) does have it as policy to kill civilians or (b) is at the least so *exceptionally* permissive in its policy when it comes to killing civilians that it is effectively an active policy to kill civilians.
